Xiaomi is gearing up to introduce its Xiaomi 12 series and judging by recent leaks this can happen as soon as in the next month. Qualcomm is expected to make its move on November 30. At the annual event, the US-based chipmaker will announce its 2022 flagship SoC that will carry a new naming structure as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 instead of Snapdragon 898 SoC. For another year, Xiaomi will be the first smartphone maker to use this chipset on a flagship, and that is expected to arrive in the Xiaomi 12 form. The new flagship lineup will be composed of a Xiaomi 12, 12 Ultra, and 12 Pro. However, a new report suggests that Xiaomi is also working on a compact variant dubbed Xiaomi 12.
Noted MIUI tipster Kacper Skrzypek managed to unearth an IMEI certification listing for the Xiaomi 12X. The device carries the Psyche codename and carries the 2112123AG model number. Judging by the leaked specifications, the Xiaomi 12X can be considered a Xiaomi 12 mini variant. Or at least, a device that arrives for those who prefer compact displays. The device will carry a 6.28-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels and a gorgeous 120 Hz refresh rate.

Xiaomi 12X alleged specifications
Although the 6.28-inch size isn’t the smallest display size in the industry, it’s one of the smallest displays in Xiaomi phones in recent memory. It’s not a mini device like the iPhone 13 mini, but honestly, super small displays aren’t trending as even Apple is ditching this variant. We assume that 6.28-inch stands as a good size for those who can’t go beyond the 6.5-inch mark. Moreover, if Xiaomi trims the bezels down it can give the impression that it is smaller than it really is. For a quick comparison, ASUS also has a mini flagship the ZenFone 8 that carries a 5.9-inch AMOLED display.
The device will not be on par with the other Xiaomi 12 smartphones in terms of performance. Under the hood, it will carry the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. This chipset is awesome when you compare it to mid-range chips. However, it is behind the Snapdragon 888 / 888+ and will also be behind the Snapdragon 8 gen 1. This probably means that the Xiaomi 12X will hit a cheaper price tag, which is not bad. Other specifications include a 50 MP primary camera at the back.
According to rumors, only the Xiaomi 12 will be disclosed in the next month. The Xiaomi 12X will reach the market only in Q1 2022. We expect more details to pop out in the coming weeks.
