More than one year ago, POCO has unveiled the POCO X3 NFC and it was a huge success. The device basically put POCO back on relevance after controversial launches with rebranded Redmi phones. Now, we’re pretty much used to POCO rebrandings, but the X3 series has proved that POCO can also bring good original smartphones. The POCO X3 reached India without NFC but had a bigger 6,000 mAh battery. A couple of months later, it received a Pro variant that had the Snapdragon 860 SoC, which is basically an overclocked Snapdragon 855+. The lineup even got a GT variant, but this one was a rebranded Redmi K40 Gaming Edition. Now, POCO is ready to bring the next big thing – the POCO X4 series.
POCO fans have been waiting a long time for the POCO X4 series. The original POCO X3 NFC arrived in September last year, but the POCO X4 wasn’t ready for the first anniversary of its predecessor. Now, however, Xiaomi seems to be finally moving to bring the new mid-range / flagship killer series. A couple of POCO handsets have been spotted on the IMEI database. As per the report from Xiaomiui, these are the upcoming POCO X4 and POCO X4 NFC.
Gizchina News of the week
Two handsets with model numbers 2201116PG and 2201116PG appeared on the IMEI database. The IMEI database reveals that these upcoming smartphones will launch under POCO branding. POCO 2201116PG is the handset for the global market, and we assume that it’s the one with NFC. The POCO 2201116PI will be the Indian variant. We have to say that we’re surprised to see POCO sticking with the “NFC” suffix for the global variant, which also means the Indian variant will lack NFC. At this point, we would prefer to have NFC in all variants and just a POCO X4 name for both.
POCO X4 series specifications are still a mystery
Unfortunately, the IMEI listing alone can’t say much about the duo smartphones. But we can expect them to appear soon in more specifications. There are many questions at this point like what will be the processor unit inside this handset, and which upgrades it’s bringing for POCO X3 owners. The original smartphones have Snapdragon 732G, 120 Hz FullHD+ LCD displays, and 64 MP cameras. We expect the POCO X4 series to improve in these three areas, probably bringing 5G with the Snapdragon 778G.
There is also the possibility of these variants arriving as rebranded Redmi Note 11 Pro. Hopefully, this won’t be the case, as the POCO X3 was an original device and we expect its successor to make justice to its name.
