Remember Coolpad? A Chinese smartphone maker that made its name back in the days with a budget and mid-range smartphones. Coolpad achieved popularity in some markets including India but lost relevancy due to the strong competition it has faced from bigger Chinese smartphone makers. The company also had a partnership with LeEco, and you can imagine how things went. LeEco is not even around anymore due to a poor administration. After a few years without much buzz, Coolpad is preparing a return with a 5G smartphone. The device will carry the Dimensity 900 SoC which is one of MediaTek’s hottest offerings. The device will carry Coolpad Cool 20 Pro moniker and is coming soon for China.
It’s interesting to see Coolpad making a bold return with the Dimensity 900. It means that the company is already returning to the market with a 5G handset. If you recall, brands like Infinix and Tecno are yet to disclose 5G smartphones. Coolpad which might be smaller than the Transsion Holding brands is ready to unveil a smartphone with one of the latest 5G chips from MediaTek. The company is proud of this and shared a teaser poster to confirm the chipset.

Talking about the Dimensity 900 5G, this handset completes the Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200 trio of 2021 chips of “high-tier” chips. This platform brings two ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2 GHz. The chipset also has a Mali-G68 MC4 SoC.

Other teased specs include a 50 MP AI triple camera setup with ArcSoft image algorithm. The earlier renders also show the device will come in three colorways – Black, White, and Blue. In addition, the handset will have an AG glass back shell, which will not collect fingerprints or smudge. The company is also equipping its handset with symmetrical dual speakers. It will sport dual 5G and Wi-Fi 6 networks. It will also have support for a 120 Hz refresh rate with the ability to automatically switch between refresh rates intelligently. It will converse the battery power of the handset.
The device also visited TENAA recently with some of its key specifications. It will pack a 6.58-inch screen with Full HD+ resolution. The display is an LCD with a waterdrop notch at the top for the selfie snapper. The listing also confirms a 4,400 mAh battery but there’s no word on a fast-charging tech. We can expect at least 33 W charging since this is a mid-range smartphone. It will also bring a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
