Gizchina News of the week

Tecno wants to be the first Android OEM with Sensor-Shift

According to Jimmy Hsu, Senior Product Manager of image technology, Tecno has made significant progress in light sensitivity through a self-developed RGBW sub-pixel rendering algorithm. It increases the light captured by the CMOS sensor by 60 percent. He adds that Light intake will see a 30 percent enhancement thanks to G + P lens technology. It results in an overall 200 percent increase and brings a revolutionary low-light imaging experience to consumers.

Tecno also plans to release its Sensor-Shift technology in 2022. It will be the first Android smartphone brand to do so. Sensor-Shift, for those unaware, is an image stabilization technology. It makes use of sensor movements instead of lens movements to compensate for vibrations. He also says that the control accuracy of Techno’s Sensor-Shift will reach 350 percent of the current level. Moreover, it has space for further algorithm optimizations in the future.

The company is also working on a concept phone with a telescope lens geared to launch in 2022. The lens provides advantages such as lossless zoom and a larger aperture. The company also adds that the “compressed back focal length(BFL) design with motorized stretchable lenses will significantly reduce the thickness of the phone. It will integrate consumer’s demands for simple appearance and high performance”.

Samsung also promised revolutionary changes at the event

Apart from TECNO, DxOMARK and Samsung also appeared in the webinar with Samsung’s VP and Head of Research & Development. He stated that through their Tetra and Nona technologies, Samsung is close to the point where smartphone brands can now deliver DSLR-grade photography in the handset of customers.
