Coolpad is working hard to bring its smartphones back to relevance. The company had its golden days alongside LeEco with the launch of LeEco Lecool smartphones. However, both companies failed to keep up with the mainstream brands from China. LeEco, for example is not even around in the smartphone market due to a disastrous administration. Coolpad is trying to catch users’ attention with a new 5G smartphone with compelling specifications. It will face tough competition in China, but the device certainly has specs to make it a viable option for some users.
Coolpad Cool 20 Pro specifications
The CoolPad Cool 20 Pro packs a 6.58-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It’s a mid-range smartphone, so the panel is a common LCD with flat edges and a waterdrop notch at the top. The cutout serves as a home for an 8 MP selfie camera which provides decent selfies and video calls.
Moving around to the back, the Coolpad Cool 20 Pro has a 50 MP main camera, paired with an 8 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro camera. The camera island has a squarish design that resembles that of the Xiaomi Mi 11. There is also an ArcSoft signature to make it clear the device’s advanced imaging capabilities.

In terms of battery life, the handset comes with a 4,500 mAh battery coupled with a 33 W fast-charging through the USB Type C port. The bottom serves as a home for a 3.5 mm headphone jack which is becoming rare these days, there is also a speaker on the bottom side. According to the company, the Cool 20 Pro offers Dirac Stereo Sound and has a dedicated second speaker on the top.
Under the hood, we have the MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC. This chipset brings two ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz plus Six power-efficient ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2 GHz. The handset is paired with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of Internal Storage. Furthermore, there is a high-tier version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of Internal Storage. There is a slot for micro SD cards allowing you to expand the storage. The Cool 20 Pro runs Android 11 with Coolpad’s own Cool OS 2.0 UI running on top.
Pricing and Availability
There is no word on global availability for the handset. It will be available in China through major online retailers like JD.com. The device starts at CNY 1,799 (~$280) and is available in Gold, White, Blue, and Black colorways.
