The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-Powered Moto Edge X30 Has Heating Issues

Qualcomm’s newly launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship chipset reportedly has overheating issues in the Moto Edge X30. The American semiconductor company unveiled its 4nm-based flagship chipset dubbed, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 at the Snapdragon Tech Summit. Furthermore, Qualcomm guaranteed a 20 percent boost in performance over the previously launched Snapdragon 888. This claim proved to be true earlier this month as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered Motorola Edge X30 scored more than 1 million on AnTuTu.

Aside from that, it delivers about 60 percent more GPU performance as compared to the Snapdragon 888. The technology is based on ARMv9 architecture, and built on the advanced 4nm process technology. On top of that, the newly launched chipset seems to be over 10 percent faster than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 888, as far as single- and multi-core performance is concerned. The new architecture brought hope that the new chip will not have overheating issues like the Snapdragon 888. However, a noted tipster suggests that won’t be the case on the Moto Edge X30.

Taking to their Twitter account earlier this week, noted insider Ice Universe claimed that the overheating issues associated with the Qualcomm flagship chipsets are still present. In the tweet, the tipster suggested that the extreme test of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 turned out to be very hot in Moto smartphones. The tweet was referring to the recently unveiled Moto Edge X30. In other words, the chip is likely to face some extreme thermal throttling issues. This will understandably raise concerns over its heating issues.

This fresh piece of information coincides with an earlier report that indicated the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 may have heat issues. According to noted network insider @Universelce , the newfangled ARM architecture isn’t as good as the one Apple uses in its chipsets. The Moto Edge X30 is the first smartphone to pack the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset under the hood. These issues with the chipset’s thermal throttling raise doubts about the future of the launch of the smartphones that are set to come with a new processor.

The Snapdragon 888, and the chipset’s overclocked version dubbed the Snapdragon 888+ are built on the 5nm fabrication process. However, both chipsets get quite hot. Now, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC is uses a smaller 4nm node. As a result, the chipset’s internal has become smaller. Regrettably, this doesn’t prove to be chaotic as far as cooling is concerned, especially while running intensive tasks on the phone. In other words, the device gets hot during long hours of gaming or recording videos even without optimizations.

According to a report from Gizbot, using a plastic frame for a slim smartphone doesn’t help with the cooling either. Android flagship smartphones have had thermal throttling issues lately. One of the reasons this occurs is because Android device makers focus on keeping the devices sleek. As a result, different parts of the smartphone, including the latest processors get less space inside the frame. However, there is a possibility that Qualcomm and Android OEMs will come up with a solution for these issues by offering improved thermal management in their new smartphones.
