Not long ago, Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi Group China, said in a post that the Redmi K40 is still the best player this year. According to him, this smartphone deserves to be the “flagship goalkeeper” in 2021. Over the past few weeks, there have been several reports regarding the Redmi K50 series. Today, popular Weibo tech blogger, @DCS, claims that the Redmi K50 series and Realme GT Neo3 will use the new Dimensity 8000 SoC.
Recall that at the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 conference yesterday, the Taiwanese chipmaker announced that the Dimensity 8000 series 5G chips will be introduced to the market in 2022. The industry considers the Dimensity 8000 as a mid-range processor. However, this chip is a 5nm chip and may not be necessarily mid-range. Of course, it will not be as powerful as the 4nm Dimensity 9000 but it will also not be mid-range like 7nm chips.
According to reports, Dimensity 8000 adopts TSMC 5nm process. The CPU architecture is 4 x 2.75GHz A78 + 4 x 2.0GHz A55 while the GPU integrates Mali-G510 MC6. This chip supports 2K 120Hz or 1080P 168Hz resolution as well as LPDDR5 + UFS 3.1 storage combination.
Gizchina News of the week
This new report is contrary to previous reports regarding the Redmi K50 series. According to previous reports, the Redmi K50 series will use a long list of chips including Snapdragon 870, Snapdragon 8 Gen1, and Dimensity 9000. However, there was initially no mention of the Dimensity 8000 on the list.
From the perspective of the chip lineup, the Redmi K50 series may launch Redmi K50, K50 gaming version, K50 Pro, K50 Pro+, and other models. The Redmi K50 series should be official in February and March after the Spring Festival.
Redmi K50 series to use a premium display
The Redmi K50 series may be the first Redmi device with a 2K display. Not long ago, Lu Weibing revealed that Redmi K50 is too strong not to be called a flagship. Redmi’s internal planning for new products has five aspects. This includes an independent display, LCD, E6 material OLED, adaptive refresh rate technology, and 2K ultra-clear resolution. It is worth noting that the 2K ultra-clear resolution OLED has never been applied by the Redmi brand before. The Redmi K50 will likely be Redmi’s first 2K model and supports higher refresh rate adjustments.
The Redmi K40 comes with a flagship design as well as an E4 OLED high refresh rate display. As the next-generation product, Redmi K50 will continue its previous strategy and continue to use an ultra-high-quality screen.
