Huawei will be unveiling its next foldable smartphone tomorrow, the P50 Pocket, which will conclude a series of announcements from the company this year. It is that it will be a clamshell device with a flexible screen. We have already seen how the new product will look in the renders, and today a video showing the Huawei P50 Pocket live has been posted on the network.
We were shown a smartphone in black and folded. It is quite compact and has rounded corners. The company logo is available on the hinge; on the back side, a round block of the main camera with three image sensors and an additional color display draws attention.
According to insider reports, the Huawei P50 Pocket will be based on the Kirin 9000 chip, offers a flexible 6.85-inch AMOLED display and a 1-inch diagonal of the second miniature screen. The rear camera received three image sensors, where the key Sony IMX766 is 50 megapixels and supplemented with 13 megapixel (ultra-wide) + 8 megapixel (telephoto, 3x optical zoom) sensors.
The battery capacity will be 4100 mAh and 66W fast wired charging technology is present. The Huawei P50 Pocket must be running HarmonyOS 2.1. Presumably the device will cost around $ 1570.
Gizchina News of the week
Samsung and Huawei claims 99% of the foldable smartphone market
Foldable smartphones are becoming increasingly popular in the smartphone market. Thankfully, these devices are becoming cheaper too thus more people can now afford them. The popularity of foldable phones far exceeds the market’s expectations. However, only a few manufacturers presently have foldable phones. According to DSCC, the total shipments of foldable phones in the third quarter of 2021 increased; by 215% from the previous quarter. The shipments of these premium smartphones also soar by 480% year on year.
However, the report shows that Samsung and Huawei occupy 99% of the foldable smartphone shipment. Among them, Samsung occupies 93% of the market share while Huawei has just 6% of the market. These two brands have almost monopolized the entire foldable smartphone market. Huawei would have had much more but the ban by the U.S. is really restricting the Chinese manufacturer.
The surge in shipments is actually mainly due to the Galaxy Z Flip3 released by Samsung in September. Its price is different from most foldable phones and it is much cheaper than others in the market. The fact is that Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 has become the most popular foldable smartphone; followed by Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Huawei Mate X2 4G version, and 5G version.
