There are currently two Android flagship processors in the market. One is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 while the other is the MediaTek Dimensity 9000. Both are 4nm process chips, but the former is produced by Samsung 4nm while the latter is produced by TSMC 4nm. In all honesty, both chips have very close overall performance. However, Dimensity 9000 has obvious advantages in the CPU energy efficiency performance. However, compared with the Snapdragon 8 Gen1, Dimensity 9000 lacks a certain 5G technology. This chip does not support 5G millimeter waves. The market has been worried that this will cause Dimensity 9000 to be blocked in some countries and regions. In markets like the U.S where there is a strong punch for mmWave 5G, it may be an issue.
However, the general manager of MediaTek, Chen Guanzhou, claims that this is not a problem. According to him, Dimensity 9000 has proper product planning, marketing, and other strategic customers. He further claims that even without the millimeter-wave 5G support, its production promotion remains intact.
In addition, MediaTek is very happy with the performance of its new flagship processor. The company said recently that the sales of this chip are better than expected.
Gizchina News of the week
SD 8 Gen1 & Dimensity 9000 has their advantages
Dimensity 9000 surpasses the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 in some key areas. The CPU performance of the X2 in both chips has the same core performance. However, the MediaTek chip is more energy-efficient, thanks to its TSMC 4nm manufacturing process. Previous test data shows that Dimensity 9000 energy efficiency ratio is 40-50% higher.
However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 is still superior in terms of game performance, and ISP support is better. Furthermore, its camera appears to have an edge. These two points are the key points where the Dimensity 9000 is not dominant. In addition, this chip is as fast as the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. Thus, except for manufacturers preferring the Snapdragon name, it would not be an easy first choice.
Another key competition between the Dimensity 9000 and Snapdragon 8 Gen1 is the price. MediaTek certainly has a price advantage, but everyone is concerned about how much cheaper it can be. Industry analysts say that the market price of MediaTek’s chip is between $100 – $110, while Snapdragon 8 Gen1 is $120 – $130. Going by these figures, the Dimensity 9000 will be $30 cheaper than the Snapdragon 8 Gen1, and the price advantage is about 30%. However, the overall price difference between the two sides is not too high. MediaTek will not rely solely on price this time. In competition, mobile phone manufacturers will choose two chips to create differentiated flagship mobile phones.
