POCO returned in 2020 with the POCO X2 and POCO F2 Pro. However, the actual device that really accounted for the company’s big return was the POCO X3. The device brought back all the appeal of the brand with affordability and solid specs. The POCO X3 Pro launched a few months later and conquered the market as the true successor for the Pocophone F1. It arrived at a very affordable pricing point bringing a powerful flagship-like SoC dubbed Snapdragon 860 which is basically an overclocked Snapdragon 855+. Back in the last month, the first rumors about the device’s sequel, the POCO X4 Pro started to appear. Now, it’s getting more consolidated as an alleged POCO X4 Pro 5G was spotted at the IMEI Database.
A while back, POCO smartphones bearing model numbers 2201116PG and 2201116PI were spotted on the IMEI Database. The listing had also revealed that both these handsets will launch under the POCO branding. Now, a new listing on the IMEI Database confirms the 220116PG is the upcoming POCO X4 Pro 5G. As the name clearly suggests, the POCO X3 Pro successors are taking things a little forward by bringing 5G connectivity this time around. A Xiaomi-focused blog, Xiaomiui took it to Twitter to share the development.
Gizchina News of the week
The POCO handset with model number 2201116PG was also spotted on the FCC just last week. The FCC listing confirms that the upcoming POCO handset will boot MIUI 13 straight out of the box. Apart from the info, it’s hard to speculate which will be the processor behind this handset. The 2201116PI model number probably belongs to the Indian variant. We assume that the devices will share similar specs unless the Indian branch decides to do some changes to them.
POCO X4 Pro might come with the Snapdragon 870 SoC
The POCO X4 Pro 5G is expected to bring an SoC more powerful than the Snapdragon 860. At the same time, it needs to bring 5G connectivity. We’re betting on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC for the handset. It would be a perfect move for POCO to make this chipset more affordable on a possible POCO flagship. We are curious to see if there will be more improvements in the handset like a possible AMOLED upgrade in the display. Time will tell, we expect the details to keep pouring out in the coming days. POCO already had some expertise with this chipset, after all, the POCO F3 which is based on the Redmi K40 Pro also had it.
Rumors also say that there is a vanilla POCO X4 and a POCO X4 NFC. These should carry a mid-range chipset, and we can speculate the Snapdragon 778G as the strongest bet for them.
