Several Tesla cars were recently spotted in the Port of Auckland, suggesting that these vehicles could be waiting for delivery in New Zealand. Last year, Tesla witnessed a skyrocketing demand for its vehicles, especially in the Q3 of 2021. If recently surfaced photos from the Port of Auckland are anything to go by, the Texas-based electric vehicle company could grow even bigger this year in New Zealand.
Tesla Vehicles Likely To Be Delivered In New Zealand Soon
Some sources familiar with the matter have shed more light on the photos showing hundreds of Teslas at the Port of Auckland. According to the aforesaid insiders, a couple of Wallenius Wilhelmsen freighters called Turandot and Tannhauser have brought several Tesla vehicles to the Port of Auckland. Furthermore, these freights are reportedly vehicle carriers. Moreover, Teslarati has managed to acquire data that suggest Turandot arrived at the Port of Auckland on January 2, 2022. To recall, Tannhauser was last seen in the Port in Auckland back on November 24, 2021.
Tesla Registrations In New Zealand
There was a significant increase in Tesla vehicle registrations in the third quarter of 2021. This spike could be a result of the Clean Car Discount. To recall, the New Zealand Government annouced the discount around the same time. The announcement made drivers buying electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles eligible for up to $8,625 (US$5,847.10) in the form of rebates for new cars. Aside from that, they were eligible for getting rebates up to $3,450 ($2,338.84) for pre-owned vehicles. Last year, the same saw registrations of more than 3,200 new Tesla vehicles. This piece of information comes from data from New Zealand’s Ministry of Transport.
This is a considerable improvement over 2020. About two years ago, records hint at registrations of only about 519 Tesla vehicles. During the pre-pandemic times in 2019, records show nearly 800 Tesla vehicles registrations in New Zealand. Tesla Giga Shanghai seems to have played a vital role in the considerable spike in the Tesla vehicles sales in New Zealand. Regrettably, the Tesla Model S, Model X, and Model 3 are currently available in the country. To recall, over half of 3,200 Tesla deliveries last year were of the Model 3. Moreover, a considerable number of the Model 3 that Tesla made their entry in New Zealand in 2021, came from China.
