February is drawing near, and alongside, we have China starting its Lunar New Year festival. The country is on a roll to begin its celebrations for The New Year of the Tiger, and some of the smartphone brands will take this season to launch new products. Of course, Xiaomi is along with them, and apparently, its Redmi subsidiary will take this opportunity to disclose the Redmi K50 series, or at least, a part of it. According to tho Redmi’s high executive, Lu Weibing, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variant of the Redmi K50 series is about to be released. The version with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC, on other hand, will come in the future.
For now, the rumors are very confusing when it comes to the Redmi K50 series. We know that there will be variants with the Dimensity 9000 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. However, there are also reports suggesting Dimensity 8000 and Snapdragon 870 variants. The lineup is set to come as Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, K50 Pro Plus, and K50 Gaming. For now, it’s not so easy to determine how the specs will be divided between these variants.
Gizchina News of the week
Redmi K50, K50 Pro, K50 Pro+ and K50 Gaming
The current thinking is that the two Pro models will come with the Snapdragon SoCs. Therefore, we can expect the Redmi K50 Pro to come with the Snapdragon 870, and the Pro Plus with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Of course, we suggest you take this with a pinch of salt. After all, using the Snapdragon 870 on the Pro would make it feel a downgrade when compared the last year’s model. Honestly, the Dimensity 9000 would make much more sense here. The vanilla, on the other hand, could be interesting with the Snapdragon 870. The reports have been suggesting the Dimensity 9000 for the Redmi K50 Gaming. The device may become the first handset with this chipset. The remaining Redmi K50 is the one with the Dimensity 8000 or Dimensity 7000 as some rumors suggest.
The Dimensity 8000 is a 5 nm chipset without a Cortex-X2 core, and a Mali-G510 MC6.Considering the specifications alone, Four ARM Cortex-A78 cores probably make this a better choice than the Snapdragon 870.
The K50 series will come with MIUI 13, and we expect Android 12 at the very least. The base model will have 50 W or 67 W charging, whereas the Pro models will bring 120 W charging. These Pro variants may also come with 108 MP cameras and a periscope lens. The gaming handset will bring shoulder triggers and a very unique design. This one will likely debut as POCO F4 GT in some markets. The Redmi K50 Pro could arrive as POCO F4.
