MediaTek Dimensity 8100 to be unveiled in March

Dimensity 8100

MediaTek has just teased the existence of a Dimensity 8000 platform back in December. The naming quickly suggested something below the Dimensity 9000 in terms of specs, but still, something that is beyond what the company offered last year with its Dimensity 1200. The reports suggested that the chip would be manufactured on the 5 nm process by TSMC, which already means an upgrade. Now, the chip seems to be almost ready for launch. The leakster Digital Chat Station has revealed it will carry Dimensity 8100 moniker and will be fully revealed in March this year.

The upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 8100 SoC will be more energy-efficient, and also more powerful than the Dimensit 1200 SoC. For instance, it comes with 4 x ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.75 GHz. The device’s GPU will be a Mali-G510 which is also new and is yet to appear in any chipset. We assume that the other cores will be based on the ARM Cortex-A55 architecture.

Gizchina News of the week

According to the report, the new chipset may be a sequel for the Dimenstiy 1100 from last year. The chipset is the Dimensity 1200 younger brother and has slightly lower specifications. Anyway, the Dimensity 8100 seems to be much ahead of the Dimensity 1100 and even surpasses the Dimensity 1200 bringing a more efficient architecture. The chipset will likely come for premium mid-range smartphones or if you prefer, entry-level flagship devices. Last year, the Dimensity 1100 wasn’t widely used like its bigger brother. We saw this chipset in a few models like the POCO X3 GT.

Hopefully, the Dimensity 8100 will appear on more devices, and we’re pretty sure that will happen. After all, the Dimensity 9000 is truly a flagship chipset bringing similar specs to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Exynos 2200.

Not Dimensity 7000 neither 8000, but Dimensity 8100

Apparently, the Dimensity 8100 is the true Dimensity 7000 that has been floating on rumors since December last year. More recently, we saw rumors suggesting it would be called Dimensity 8000, but that wasn’t its real name too. Hopefully, Dimensity 8100 will be the last rebranding.

The Dimensity 8100 will go official in the next month. However, we don’t know if that comes through a simple revelation or through a smartphone launch. The Dimensity 9000 has been officially “available” since December 2021. However, no device so far is available with this flagship-tier chip. Apparently, the first one will be the Oppo Find X5. We assume that the number of devices with it will grow after that.
