Even when Redmi was a brand under Xiaomi, it was considered as a manufacturer of cost-effective smartphones. But the world changes. And after its independence, Redmi has decided to design top-end smartphones. In some sense, this brand not only makes competition to other companies but Xiaomi itself. Today, following the schedule, the manufacturer released the Redmi K50 e-sports version, which has tons of outstanding features. Due to them, the phone is going to make the tough competition not only for traditional smartphones but gaming handsets as well.
Redmi K50 e-sports Version Design
The Redmi K50 e-sports version adopts a design derived from a sports car. It uses more than 40 metal cutting processes. The back of the fuselage, camera frame, speaker openings, notification lights, volume rockers, and other elements are all X elements. They are decorated with lightning bolts and support 16 million color ambient light effects.
The middle frame is made of metal, while the back cover uses a matte glass material. There are CNC chamfered buttons, CD textured shoulder key swing switches, metal camera frames, etc. In terms of colors, you can choose from shadow black / ice blue and silver wing.
The phone’s thickness is controlled at 8.5mm, while the weight is 210g. So it’s very comfortable to hold with one hand.
Display
The Redmi K50 e-sports version sports a 6.67-inch screen from CSOT. It has also passed the DisplayMate A+ certification, reaching 15 records. The display supports 10-bit color depth, factory-adjusted JNCD≈0.18, DeltaE≈0.30, 120Hz refresh rate, 480Hz touch sampling rate, 24000×10800 touch partition, 1920Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, ambient color temperature sensing, and the surface is covered with Corning Gorilla Victus. Even if we ignore the rest of the screen parameters, it sounds quite attractive. Anyway, other parameters include a 2400×1080 resolution, 5 million:1 contrast ratio, P3 color gamut, HDR10+ high dynamic range, video super-resolution enhancement, MEMC motion compensation, etc.
Gaming Design Elements
Our protagonist uses magnetic power pop-up shoulder key 2.0. The latter comes with 8 toggle switch magnets, while the company has moved the silicone material keys. So the impact is way stronger.
As for their functions, the shoulder keys now support segment triggering – press and lift corresponds to different operations. They support custom shortcut functions – double-click or long-press will launch the camera app, switch to muted mode, enable flashlight, record videos, etc.
The company has added an independent tweeter on each side of the stereo dual speakers. And the phone boasts dual 1115 mid-bass units + dual 0611 tweeters.
The speaker opening is moved up to avoid blocking when holding the phone horizontally.
Xiaomi/Redmi has always been very concerned about the motor. So this is not accidental that the Redmi K50 e-sports version debuts the CyberEngine ultra-wideband X-axis motor 1016. The vibration volume of the whole machine is as high as 5.12Gpp.
It is the largest in size in the Android camp. The motor is based on the ESA integrated multi-pole magnetic steel structure, which has a stronger vibration and lower noise. The ultra-wide frequency coverage varies from 50 to 500Hz and provides richer vibration effects. Say, it is comparable to the same 130Hz resonance frequency of the iPhone.
Gizchina News of the week
What’s Under The Hood?
As we are dealing with a semi-gaming smartphone, it’s reasonable to see the latest flagship chip of Qualcomm. The Redmi K50 e-sports version features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, LPDDR5 memory, upgraded UFS 3.1 flash storage, and Xiaomi’s self-developed IO Turbo 2.0 technology. The latter is capable of improving decompression performance by 100%, and file copy performance by 300%.
Heat Dissipation
It’s a gaming handset and this means the processor will work at its peak frequently. So the generated heat should be taken out quickly not to affect the gaming process. For this, the manufacturer uses 7 major innovations and 5 new materials. For instance, there is a separation layout between the processor heat source and the charging heat source. The main heat dissipation material is the largest possible 4860 square mm double VC.
Among them, the main VC is 4015 square millimeters, covering the upper part of the processor and the battery. The hydrophilic capillary mesh is treated with a special process, and the heat dissipation efficiency is increased by 10%.
The vice VC is 848 square millimeters, covering two charging IC chips. Also, there is a 3D step difference structure closely attached. So there is no gap.
At the same time, there is a large area of graphene on the front connecting the double VC, and the back uses a 3D high-power graphite, which improves the thermal conductivity by 15%.
According to the official introduction, when testing for a 120fps game for 30 minutes, the body temperature was only 43.5 ℃.
If you are still not satisfied, you can buy a 99-yuan ($16) metal heat dissipation magnetic shell with built-in thermal conductive metal and a magnet. Another option is the 199-yuan ($31) magnetic heat dissipation back clip, which can lower the temperature by 5 °C.
Battery and Charging
The battery capacity of the Redmi K50 e-sports version has been increased to 4700mAh. It still supports the company’s 120W fast charging solution. Due to this dual charge pump and MTW dual-cell technology, it can be fully charged in 17 minutes. Plus, you will get fast charging even when playing. When playing a 120fps game, it can reach 100% of power in 37 minutes.
Such a charging speed causes concerns. But for charging safety, Redmi has added 46 layers of safety protection. Plus, there is smart charging protection to delay battery aging.
Redmi K50 e-sports Camera
Again, this is a gaming smartphone. So it’s a sin to wait for strong camera features. The rear main camera is the Sony IMX686 64MP CMOS. This is a 2-year-old sensor. But after polishing, it now supports four-in-one and Remosaic features. Plus, there is a 2MP macro lens, an 8MP super wide-angle lens, while on the front, we can find a 20MP camera using the Sony IMX596 CMOS.
It is worth mentioning that the Flicker Sensor can completely eliminate stroboscopically and is suitable for shooting screens and projections.
Redmi K50 e-sports Version Price and Availability
The 8GB+128GB version costs 3299 yuan ($520), the 12GB+128GB model comes at 3599 yuan ($568), while the 12GB+256GB variant is available at 3899 yuan ($615). The pre-sale has already begun and it will go on sale tomorrow.
