Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, has been doing all it can to keep its smartphone business alive. The company is not in the market to compete. According to Huawei’s executives, the company just wants to survive. Despite its recent woes, the company still remains among the top 10 smartphone brands globally. Last year, we had a lot of smartphones with multiple performance levels. While we expected Huawei to release the flagship Huawei Mate 50 series, this did not happen for obvious reasons. However, the company will still release the flagship smartphone, just a little late.
According to recent reports out of China, the Huawei Mate 50 series will have only the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. However, this chip will be the 4G version and the Mate 50 series will not support 5G. Furthermore, the report claims that in terms of camera, the Huawei Mate 50 series will improve on the Huawei P50 series camera. If this happens, then the Mate 50 series camera will be terrific. Recall that since the release of the P50 series, its camera performance has been in the number one spot on DxOMark.
As for when the Huawei Mate 50 series will be unveiled, the report claims that it will arrive around mid-to-late July. This is approximately one year after the release of the Huawei P50 series.

Huawei Mate 50 series may pre-install HarmonyOS 3.0
As the latest smartphone in Huawei’s flagship series, the Huawei Mate 50 series will come with HarmonyOS 3.0 out-of-the-box. There are reports that HarmonyOS 3.0 will be official around July. Thus, it is most likely that the system will arrive before or at the launch event of the Mate 50 series.
There are several reports that HarmonyOS 3.0 will commence testing in March. Furthermore, the new features of HarmonyOS 2.0 are already available for the second batch of devices. In September last year, Xu Zhijun, the rotating chairman of Huawei, said in an interview that after Huawei was sanctioned, it has been relying on inventory to survive and solve the chip problem.
Back in September last year, HarmonyOS hit the 100 million mark. However, in the same month, the company announced that its operating system now has over 150 million users in China. Furthermore, by December 2021, HarmonyOS active users in China exceeds 220 million. There are hundreds of millions of Huawei users outside China that is waiting for this system. Unfortunately, this operating system is yet to roll out outside China. Nevertheless, there are reports that HarmonyOS will leave China this year and global users can have a feel of the system.
