Samsung has made headlines because it has been found to be slowing down the performance of its smartphones. The reason is the Samsung Game Optimizing Service (GOS); whose task is to optimize system performance and prevent overheating in games. In reality, GOS also limits the performance of other applications, and there are more than 10,000 apps affected.
“The GOS of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series is preloaded with our app that optimizes CPU and GPU performance to prevent excessive heat during long gameplay,” read an excerpt of a machine-translated notice posted by Samsung on its Members app (h/t: TechM and Dohyun Kim on Twitter).
Samsung promised to sort it out and it took not so much time to do so. The company confirmed that indeed GOS optimizes the performance of the chip and video accelerator; to prevent excessive heat during long gaming sessions. However, it did not directly say that the performance limit affects not only games. At the same time, they promise that the company will soon release an update “providing performance priority”.
As a result, they will implement all this, it will be possible to judge after the company releases the update. It’s almost certain that enthusiasts will try to check which applications will be on the list of those that are subject to a performance limit.

“In order to meet the needs (sic), the Game Booster lab in the Game Launcher app will soon implement a software update that provides a performance priority option.”
Samsung admitted the degradation of the performance of its smartphones
Recently, Korean enthusiasts GaryeonHan and Korean Samsung smartphone users have published a list of 10,000 apps that appear to have been artificially slowed down by the Samsung Game Optimizing Service (GOS). Korean Samsung communities have numerous complaints about the insufficient speed of a number of applications. We assume that this measure is to increase the battery life of devices.
The list includes not only games, but also other applications, including Instagram, the Microsoft Office suite, Netflix, Google Keep, TikTok and many others. The problem even affected the Korean company’s own apps and services. Secure Folder, Samsung Cloud, Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass, and even the phone app. Notably missing from this list are 3DMark, Antutu, PCMark, GFXBench, and GeekBench 5, whose performance shouldn’t suffer, of course. One Korean video blogger even made an experiment by renaming the 3DMark package to Genshin Impact; this game is on the list of slow applications; after which the benchmark data changed significantly: the number of points and the average frame rate decreased.
