Today, Amazon will release its own version of Clubhouse. The new app is called Amp and it will allow anyone to become a radio DJ. Other than that, the Amazon Amp application allows us to listen to music and chat simultaneously. In some sense, it’s a social media platform for music lovers.
How Amp Works?
Once registered, you will be able to host your own live show. Besides, as Amazon proves, “you will be able to stream tens of millions of licensed songs from the big three record labels and a long list of indies.” As you understand, due to it, you will turn into a radio DJ who can form a playlist, talk to listeners, and chat with call-in guests.
What’s more important, none of the hosts or listeners will have to subscribe to any particular service to tune in. Simply put, if you are signed up for Amp, you can listen to full-length songs for free.
Gizchina News of the week
Well, in eyes of Amazon, this is a radio-style service than a live chat service. This means that Amazon wants to make direct competition to Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces that have been in the live audio space for a while. By the way, Facebook has similar goals as well. However, Amazon’s Amp service has a serious advantage over the mentioned services – Amazon has the music licensing agreements in place. To somehow compensate for this shortcoming, Amp’s competitors focus more on chats.
Celebs Will Use It As Well
To make the music streaming service more popular and encourage people more actively use this service, Amazon is bringing on some celebrity hosts to kick things off. Nicki Minaj, Pusha T, Tinashe, Travis Barker, Lil Yachty, and Big Boi will be the first artists to stream on Amp. Though we still don’t know when they will be live, it’s pretty nice to know such celebrities will use the same service as we.
Unfortunately, at the launch, Amazon’s Amp will not offer any monetization service. But Amazon ought to add it in the future.
To better understand users’ needs and some bugs that might appear during use, Amazon has already “comprehensive community guidelines” in place, and “a 24/7 moderation team.”
Also, you should know that the service will still be limited beta; it’s only available on iOS; before getting access, you will remain on a waitlist, and it’s only available in the US.
Generally, Amp has many things in common with Clubhouse. But free music offer will help this app stand out and develop more rapidly.
