Microsoft reminds that Internet Explorer will be definitively dead on June 15

Internet Explorer is living its last moments! Several months before the deadline, Microsoft reminds all the last users of the browser to switch to Edge. Last year, Microsoft announced the death date of Internet Explorer. On June 15, 2022, web browser support will end. Initially, the American publisher had planned to bury Internet Explorer last summer.

Microsoft had finally decided to offer several months of support to users, the time to convince them to switch to Edge. Despite its impending death, the browser is still in use by millions of Internet users around the world.

As the deadline is fast approaching, Microsoft has posted a reminder on its official website. The American giant points out that many websites no longer support the illustrious browser, which risks degrading the user experience.

ā€œAs previously announced, the future of Internet Explorer on Windows is in Microsoft Edge. Internet Explorer mode (IE mode) provides legacy browser support within Microsoft Edge,ā€ Microsoft wrote in aĀ post.

Gizchina News of the week

For a time, the IE mode (integrated within Microsoft Edge) will always be available. This mode provides trouble-free viewing of internal websites designed to work with Internet Explorer. This mode was developed to smooth the transition between the two browsers.

ā€œBecause of this, the Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop application will be retired on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10. This means that the IE11 desktop application will no longer be supported and afterward will redirect to Microsoft Edge if a user tries to access it,ā€ the company added.

Obviously, this mode is temporary. Microsoft will gradually stop offering it on computers running Windows. Here are the dates by the company:

  • Windows 10 Enterprise version 20H2: May 9, 2023
  • Windows 10 Enterprise version 2004: December 14, 2021
  • Windows-10 2019 LTSC: January 9, 2029
  • Windows 8.1: January 10, 2023
  • Windows 7 (ESU required): January 15, 2023

ā€œIE mode will continue to get spport until at least 2029, and Microsoft will give a year’s notice before deprecating the IE mode experience in the market when the time comes,ā€ Microsoft says. To enjoy it until 2029 on Windows 10, you will simply have to update the operating system.

Unsurprisingly, Microsoft encourages the last recalcitrants to switch to Microsoft Edge, the latest version of its browser, which is ā€œmore reliable, faster and secureā€. We know that Chrome is the dominant browser in the market. But there are still users that use alternatives. Are you still using Internet Explorer? We are waiting for your opinion in the comments.
