A recent exclusive report from Onsitego claims that Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, will be official in early May. This is much earlier than the previous release schedule. According to Onsitego’s report, a number of mobile phone brands such as Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi already have samples of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus flagship processor. These brands are already testing the suitability of this flagship processor.
The industry expects these brands to launch many smartphones using this new flagship processor before the end of the year. One of the above brands will be the first to use the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus smartphone. In fact, there are reports that the first smartphone with this chip will be available in June.
Onsitego also claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will use TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process. Recall that the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 uses the Samsung 4nm manufacturing process. Due to the low yield rate of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 using Samsung’s 4nm, Qualcomm decided to switch to TSMC. MediaTek Dimensity chips using TSMC’s 4nm process are in large-scale distribution.
Gizchina News of the week
Like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus still uses a “1+3+4” three-cluster architecture. This consists of a large-core Cortex X2, a large-core Cortex A710, and a small-core Cortex A510. The CPU frequency is 2.99GHz, and the GPU has a small upgrade.
There is no doubt that the overall performance of AnTuTu of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will reach a new high. It should be the new most powerful 5G mobile phone chip in the Android camp. At the moment, the highest score of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on AnTuTu is about 1.1 million. There are speculations that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus may exceed 1.2 million points.
Why the hurry to release this chip?
If we follow the release of the Snapdragon 888 Plus, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus should arrive at the end of June. This is about three months from now. However, this chip will now arrive in early May. This is about two months earlier than scheduled. Why is Qualcomm in a hurry to release this flagship processor?
The Dimensity 9000 is already official and it uses TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process. This chip completely defeats the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in all ramifications. The Dimensity 9000 is more efficient and saves more power than the SD8 Gen1. If Qualcomm gives the Dimensity 9000 space, it will probably claim a lot of models from Qualcomm. This is probably why Qualcomm badly needs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus to hit the road.
