Motorola made a remarkable return to the flagship segment with the Motorola Edge X30. The device got rebranded to Motorola Edge 30 Pro and set sail to the western markets recently. The phone brought advanced features like proper fast-charging, a gorgeous 144 Hz OLED display, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It may sound like Motorola’s definitive flagship for 2022, however, the rumor mill has been suggesting that this isn’t exactly the case. The company already has another flagship for 2022, and it will be even more impressive than the Motorola Edge 30 Pro. The rumored device carries the Motorola Frontier codename and will bring impressive specs such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and a 200 MP ISOCELL HP1 camera. Today, a new leak gives us the first glimpse at the handset.
We already saw the Motorola Frontier through leaked renders. The device has an “expressive” design with curved edges, a centered punch-hole, and a rectangular camera island. At the first glance, the camera design seemed weird. However, today’s leak gives us a real look at the device’s back. It confirms the phone’s as the world’s first 200 MP camera smartphone. Furthermore, it serves to show that the phone isn’t as ugly as the renders have suggested.
Gizchina News of the week
Motorola Frontier – world’s first 200 MP camera smartphone
The Motorola Frontier packs a huge rectangular cutout for the triple-camera setup. The top, the massive camera module is the 200 MP sensor. There is a label on the camera’s island that confirms it’s a 200 MP HP1 sensor with OIS and an f/2.2 aperture. According to details from Samsung, its 200 MP sensor can function as several different sensors. That comes as a result of the deep learning-based remosaicing algorithm.
The Samsung 200 MP HP1 can perform 2×2 pixel binning, which results in 50 MP resolution shots with an effective pixel size of 1.28 µm. There is also a mode with 4×4 binning with 16 sensor pixels that create one big pixel with the equivalent of 12.5 MP resolution and 2.56 µm pixels. IT can shoot up to 8K video at 30 frames per second with the field of view shrinking as little as possible.
Alleged specifications
The Motorola Frontier will bring a curved 6.67-inch pOLED screen with a 144 Hz refresh rate. The device will re-utilize the Edge X30’s selfie snapper with 60 MP resolution. Under the hood, the phone will bring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus which suggests an H2 2022 release. The phone comes in variants with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and 12 GB of RAM with 256 GB of Storage. The rumors say it will draw its powers from a 4,500 mAh battery with support for 125 W charging. A few days ago, Lenovo’s executive has teased a 125 W Motorola Charger which confirms our belief. The device will also pack a wireless charger that will go between 30 W and 50 W. The reason behind this “variable” wireless charging is not yet confirmed.
We expect more details to keep popping out as the launch is rumored to happen in July. Besides the Motorola Frontier, the company will also present a Lenovo Legion device in the coming months.
