Every year, Qualcomm releases 1.5 flagship chips. We mean there is the base version of the Qualcomm 8 series chip and the accelerated version that usually gets the “Plus” suffix at the end. Thus, it’s not a new generation but a slightly modified version of the annual flagship. This year is not going to be an exception. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen SoC has been out for a while. There are tons of new models powered by this chip. So it’s the right time to think about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus.
We have heard various rumors concerning upcoming smartphones that will sport the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. In fact, all major smartphone OEMs are doing their best to debut this chip. And it seems Motorola has won the race. If nothing else, we should be talking about the Motorola Frontier (codename).
At least, today, a Weibo blogger revealed that Motorola is testing a new handset with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus onboard. However, it’s not surprising because, in December 2021, this manufacturer was the first to bring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phone, namely the Moto Edge X30.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus Parameters
Now, Motorola may outrun all of its rivals and debut the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor phone. This chip is built with TSMC’s 4nm process. Compared with Samsung’s 4nm Snapdragon 8, the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is expected to be improved a lot. At the same time, the power consumption control may be better than that of the current model.
Like the Snapdragon 8, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus still has a “1+3+4” three-cluster architecture. Thus, it will consist of a large-core Cortex X2, a large-core Cortex A710, and a small-core Cortex A510. The CPU frequency is 2.99GHz, while the GPU might get a small upgrade too.
There is no doubt that the overall performance of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will hit a new high in AnTuTu. Thus, it will become the most powerful 5G mobile phone chip in the Android camp.
However, some analysts think even TSMC’s 4nm process won’t solve the heating problem of the current model. And the reason behind this is that it consumes too much power.
Well, according to the latest leaks, Qualcomm will unleash this chip in May. This simply means that we can see the first smartphones with it, including the new Motorola handset in June. Other models that are rumored to come with it are the Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, Flip 4, a Rollable phone, etc.
