Carl Pei, one of OnePlu’s co-founders left the company in late 2020. It was a sudden and surprising move, and rumors spread out that the former mind leading the OnePlus team wasn’t happy with the company’s directions. A few months later, OnePlus announced a merger with Oppo, and Pei announced its own company dubbed Nothing. Seeing these two events, we could understand that Pei was pretty aware of OnePlus future under Oppo’s wings, and he wasn’t happy with that.
With Nothing, he announced a focus on smart products including wearables. However, shortly after the Nothing brand reveals, we saw it acquiring Essential and all its patents. Then, the rumors about a possible Nothing smartphone exploded. This month, the company finally confirmed it’s working on a new smartphone dubbed Nothing phone (1) pretty soon. The company wants its device to be a real Android answer to Apple iPhones.

Now, the company is doing a cryptic teaser campaign for an upcoming April 1 reveal. The company calls fans for the announcement of “(1) more thing” tomorrow.
Nothing has “(1) more thing” to reveal tomorrow
The “One more thing” has become quite popular several years ago as one of Steve Jobs, the great mind behind Apple, sayings. He always surprised the audience by revealing revolutionary products after saying “One more thing”. We are pretty sure that Nothing is trying to make a reference to this product, and hence, trying to create hype for an upcoming launch.
Gizchina News of the week
The company went to Twitter to say that it will be announcing “(1) more thing” tomorrow, April 1. There is also an image with the phrase and what seems to be a smartphone bottom with a USB Type-C port. The company already revealed its plans for the Nothing phone (1), so what is the big deal with tomorrow’s event? Could be Nothing planning another smartphone, or even another product? The image also shows the speaker grille, microphone, and what looks like antenna bands, so it’s a device with a metal frame.
At the moment it’s hard to determine what is the point of this announcement. However, it could mean more details about the Nothing phone (1). Not much is known about the device except it’s coming soon. We expect it to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, after all, the two companies have established a partnership. In addition to that, the phone will run a software dubbed Nothing OS which will be very close to vanilla Android. The company promises 3 years of Android OS upgrades and up to 4 years of security updates.
Of course, in the end, this may just be an April fools joke. In case you’ve forgotten, April 1 is a day marked with jokes and smartphone companies aren’t an exception. Talking about Carl Pei’s former brand, OnePlus, the brand has revealed the OnePlus 10 Pro for global markets, and a OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z2 for the Indian market.
