Redmi has introduced its Redmi K50 and K50 Pro smartphones in China earlier this month. Now, it’s just a matter of time until POCO makes its usual rebranding treatment. The rebranding company will soon introduce the POCO F4 series and these devices will likely be based on the Redmi K50 series or the Redmi K40S. Today, the POCO F4 5G has just passed through the NBTC certification in Thailand, which is a move for the global release. In addition to Thailand, we expect these devices to hit Europe and India. There are also rumors about the POCO F4 Pro and the POCO F4 GT which will be based on the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition.
POCO F4 5G specifications and launch details
The POCO F4 5G was already spotted on the Geekbench database, and here comes the most curious fact. The device appeared with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G. That is a bit strange, after all, the Redmi K50 and K50 Pro come with the Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 9000, respectively. Perhaps, the POCO F4 5G will be based on the Redmi K40S. In addition to the mysterious Snapdragon processor, the phone has 8 GB of RAM and runs Android 12 straight out of the box.
The POCO F4 5G passed the NBTC certification in Thailand with a 22021211RG model number. The device will boast GSM, WCDMA, LTE, and NR telecommunication sub-categories. This confirms 5G connectivity. Although not all markets will enjoy this feature, that is still in the adoption phase for many countries.
Gizchina News of the week
According to previous leaks, the chipset giving power to the POCO F4 5G is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. That may sound as a disappointment for some users. After all, the last year’s POCO F3 5G had this very same chipset. So there won’t be big news in performance for this handset. But we expect other aspects to differentiate the smartphone. There is also a huge potential for this device to be very affordable. So, if we get a Snapdragon 870 at a super appealing price tag, then people won’t care much for it using the Snapdragon 870 rather than a modern chipset. The 7 nm processor can still handle anything on Google Play Store.
As per the rumors, the phone will be based on the Redmi K40S which went official in China this month. The Redmi K40S has a design language that resembles the newer Redmi K50 series. The phone flaunts a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and HDR 10+ support. Under the hood, it boasts the Snapdragon 870 with up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of Storage. There is also a base version with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of Storage.
The phone has a triple-camera setup with a 48 MP main camera with OIS, an 8 MP ultrawide snapper, and a 2 MP macro shooter. The selfie snapper is a 20 MP module. The phone has Stereo Speakers, IR Blaster, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6, and USB Type-C. It draws power from a 4,500 mAh battery with 67 W fast charging. This device is almost a Redmi K50 with a different processor and a smaller battery.
