The end of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 smartphones is near

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 represents an important step for Qualcomm. It marked the company’s entrance into the 4 nm territory, and also the debut of ARMv9 architecture. Moreover, it was the beginning of a rebranding process for Qualcomm’s chipsets. The company left the old Snapdragon 800 series to start the Snapdragon 8 series that will be split between generations. Now, it’s just a matter of time until the other generations join this new format. Despite the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 excellent performance, the company had to deal with some overheating issues, and apparently, it wasn’t happy with the Samsung manufacture of its 4 nm chips. Earlier this month, Qualcomm already showed its intent of changing to chips supplied by TSMC (Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company). Now, it seems that these chips are finally coming in the form of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus.

According to an unnamed source that is “familiar with supply chain talks”, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is due as early as June, or July at the very least. This already shows Qualcomm’s commitment to bringing the new System on Chip to smartphone makers. Apparently, the company’s efforts will be bigger than in previous years. To recall, the Snapdragon 888+ adoption was very low. Maybe, the situation will be different with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. In fact, there are already many rumors about smartphones using the new platform.
