Back in the last year, OnePlus and Oppo merged to unite their workforce and, apparently, philosophies. We saw massive reflections of internal changes this year. OnePlus changed its usual launch schedule introducing its flagship in January. We’re also seeing the company launching a couple of new devices that aren’t exactly original phones, but rebrandings. Now, the company seems to be borrowing the name of an old Oppo smartphone. According to the leakster Digital Chat Station, the company is planning to introduce a new Ace lineup of smartphones in China. To recall, Oppo has previously used this name within the Reno series. Now, OnePlus has confirmed the arrival of this OnePlus Ace through Weibo. The teaser post shows the phone’s triple rear camera with a brand new design.
In fact, the design isn’t entirely new but is still new for OnePlus devices. It resembles the upcoming OnePlus 10R smartphone, which appears to be a rebranded Realme GT Neo 3. This “cost-effective” flagship has been teased in India through the Amazon India Instagram page. The OnePlus 10R shouldn’t be widely available, after all, the OnePlus 9R was only available in India and China. Apparently, the OnePlus Ace can be the Chinese counterpart of the OnePlus 10R, which makes things even weirder.
Gizchina News of the week
Considering all the leaks, the OnePlus has almost everything that the Realme GT Neo 3. Even the design is familiar except for the colorways and logos, obviously. Not even the software will be much different in China. While the OnePlus 10R will reach India with OxygenOS 12, the OnePlus Ace will likely run ColorOS 12 as the Chinese variants of OnePlus smartphones. Needless to say, ColorOS and Realme UI are very closely related. Anyway, the company will still sell the same “hardware with a different makeover”. So it will be up to Chinese customers to choose the OnePlus or the Realme smartphone.
OnePlus Ace’s alleged specifications
Taking the rebranding in mind, we already know what to expect from this OnePlus Ace. The device may come with a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The phone has a centered punch-hole cutout. Under the hood, the phone carries the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 SoC with up to 12 GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The device also has a triple-camera setup led by a 50 MP snapper. There is also an 8 MP ultrawide shooter and a 2 MP macro lens. For selfies and video calls, there is a 16 MP shooter inside of the centered punch hole.
The OnePlus 10R will come with 150 W fast-charging, so we expect a 4,500 mAh battery. The Realme GT Neo 3 has two versions, and the one with 150 W charging packs this battery capacity.
The company is planning to launch a bunch of new products in India on March 28. We expect more details to appear soon.
