ZTE was the first to launch a commercial smartphone with an under-screen camera. The risk was high and the first attempt failed. The quality of the photos on the camera under the display surface did not stand up to criticism and did not succeed in loudly declaring itself. The ZTE Axon 20 will go down in history as the first failed under-screen camera experiment.
But the setback didn’t dampen ZTE’s determination to bring advanced technology to the masses. Last year, the ZTE Axon 30 saw the light, and now it will find a successor in the face of the Axon 40 and the Axon 40 Ultra will debut alongside with it. Today, pictures of the Axon 40 Ultra have been posted with an emphasis on the front panel, where there are no traces of the front camera.
Noteworthy is the installation of a curved panel with thin frames around the perimeter. Finding the location of the selfie camera with the naked eye is impossible. Whether this will be the case in reality, we will only find out with the release of the smartphone, because the photo could have been taken in ideal conditions and from the right angle to hide the presence of the camera.
ZTE Axon 40 Ultra should offer Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, up to 12 GB of RAM, a triple rear camera with a 64-megapixel main sensor and Android 12 operating system. The ZTE Axon 40 family will launch in May.
