There is no secret that Qualcomm intends to release an improved version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. At the moment, there is no complete information about what changes should be expected from the new platform. We only know that the production of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ was entrusted to TSMC and was based on 4-nanometer technology from the Taiwanese chipmaker. In theory, it should give a tangible increase in terms of energy efficiency.
Presumably, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be announced in May and after that, a lineup of new products will begin with it on board. Naturally, Xiaomi will not ignore this chip either, which aims to release several flagships with it. Xiaomiui reporters found information about such smartphones in the MIUI source code. In particular, they managed to find models with “PlatformX475” in various applications. Recall that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ codename is SM8475 and there is no doubt that this system on a chip is hidden behind the abbreviation PlatformX475.
Xiaomi smartphones to have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chip
According to them, the new flagship platform from Qualcomm will be on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12T Pro/Redmi K50S Pro. Presumably, Xiaomi 12 Ultra could be a pioneer with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chip. Interestingly, the list of contenders for the new processor does not include the Xiaomi Mix 5. Either this model will not really come out, or it will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Gizchina News of the week
Alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, Qualcomm is also preparing to launch the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip. A Chinese insider, known on the Weibo social network under the nickname Digital Chat Station, published the key specs of the chip. It should be the American company’s answer to the Dimensity 8100 SoC.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 should replace the Snapdragon 778G and Snapdragon 778G Plus. It will receive four Arm Cortex-A710 and four Arm Cortex-A510 cores, Adreno 662 will be in use as the GPU. 662.
However, you can’t count on a big increase in the overall performance of the new SoC relative to the Snapdragon 778G. According to the source, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will be slower than Snapdragon 870. And here it is worth recalling that the performance of Dimensity 8100 is approximately between Snapdragon 870 and Snapdragon 888. So Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, in this situation, will not be able to compete with Dimensity 8100.
However, this does not mean that Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will not be popular. Surely it will be as in demand as the Snapdragon 778G. According to rumors, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will be in use in Honor 70 smartphones.
