Samsung Galaxy M31s receives One UI 4.1 update

Galaxy M31s

Samsung started the rollout of the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update the last year with the 2021 flagships. After completing the update, the company then shifted attention to the mid-range lineup. Unlike, the flagships that had to go through One UI 4.0 and One UI 4.1, some mid-range smartphones are receiving the latest update in a single shot. The company recently rolled out the Android 12 update for the 2020’s Galaxy M51. Now, it’s bringing the update for the Samsung Galaxy M31s. This successful smartphone is being updated straight to the One UI 4.1 firmware version.

Samsung has started rolling out the stable One UI 4.1 update with Android 12 for the Galaxy M31s. The update weighs around 2 GB and carries build number M317FXXU3DVD4. The update is currently rolling out to the SM-M317F variant. The rollout has reportedly gone live in Russia, just like the Galaxy A50. The new update will make its way to other markets very soon. So if you have a Galaxy M31s laying around, it’s a good idea to stay alert to the notifications.

Samsung Galaxy M31s gets One UI 4.1 Core update

As aforementioned, the Samsung Galaxy skips the One UI 4.0 update to go straight to One UI 4.1. However, the device is not getting the full-fledged One UI 4.1. For unclear reasons, Samsung decided to bring it to the One UI Core branch. To those unaware, this is a lightweight version of One UI. Similar to Android Go, but richer. We don’t know exactly the reason behind this, after all, the device has been running full-fledged One UI until now. Perhaps, Samsung isn’t confident about this device’s performance on full-fledged Android 12. To be honest, the device runs an aging Exynos 9611 processor that carries two ARM Cortex-A73 cores as big cores.

Owners of the Galaxy M31s will be getting the update through the OTA channels in the coming days. The One UI 4.1 update is rolling out in a staged manner. Therefore, it may take a few days to reach all users. You can head to Settings >> Software update to manually check for the update. To skip the wait, you can grab the new release directly from Samsung’s Firmware Update Server.

The new update brings Color Palette which is Samsung’s take on Monet Engine. Furthermore, there are a few tweaks that originally come from Android 12 such as location and microphone use indicators at the status bar. The update also brings an enhanced Dark Mode and more. You can check the source for the complete changelog.

The device got its first major update in February last year. Now, Android 12 arrives as the second one. We can pretty much assume that the device won’t get further major updates, security patches may still come though.
