Earlier today, Nintendo announced its annual financial report as of March 31, with net sales of 1,695.344 billion yen (about $13 billion). This is a year-on-year decrease of 3.6%. The company’s operating profit hit 592.76 billion yen (about $4.5 billion), down 7.5% year-on-year. As for its net profit, the company has about 477.691 billion yen (about $3.7 billion), down 0.6% year on year. Nintendo’s earnings per share were 4,046.69 yen ($31.11), relative to 4,032.6 yen ($31) in the same period last year. Nintendo Switch sold 4.11 million consoles in the January-March period.
This brings its total fiscal year shipments to 23.06 million, just in line with expectations of 23 million. Total shipments for the fiscal year, however, fell 20% year-over-year, which Nintendo said was due to a shortage of semiconductors and other components.
Since its release in March 2017, the total shipments of the Nintendo Switch have exceeded 107.65 million units, beating its own Wii console, but far from 154.02 million units of the NDS.
In terms of games, a total of 235.07 million copies were sold in the last fiscal year, a year-on-year increase of 1.8%. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe topped the list with 45.33 million copies sold. Pokémon: Arceus made a strong debut last quarter and has sold 12.64 million copies to date.
