The Chinese company Oppo has published a series of teasers showing a tablet computer called Pad Air. The device will be based on the Qualcomm hardware platform.

We are talking about the use of the Snapdragon 680 processor: it contains eight Kryo 265 cores with a clock speed of up to 2.4 GHz, an Adreno 610 graphics accelerator and a Snapdragon X11 LTE modem. Obviously, a version of the device without cellular support will also go on sale – only with Wi-Fi.

The display size will be 10.36 inches diagonally, the resolution is 2000 × 1200 pixels, the refresh rate is 60 Hz. Users will be able to interact with the screen using fingers and a special pen.

Power will be provided by a 7100 mAh battery with support for 18-watt charging. The Dolby Atmos audio system with four speakers is mentioned. A single camera will be located in the back of the case, but its resolution has not yet been specified.

An insider known on the Weibo social network as Digital Chat Station has recently revealed details about Oppo’s new foldable smartphone with a flexible screen. The device will receive a vertical display and compete with models such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 and Huawei P50 Pocket.

Gizchina News of the week

The main feature of the promising Oppo model is the price – it will be at the mark of 5,000 yuan ($755). For comparison, in China, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 is priced at 7,400 yuan, while the Huawei P50 Pocket is priced at 9,000 yuan.

It also talks about the release of a new smartphone model with a large flexible screen and based on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC. Its price will be approximately 7,000 yuan ($1,060). Apparently, we are talking about the successor to the Oppo Find N.

Oppo has also recently announced its desire to create its own platform for smartphones; and recent data suggest that it is almost ready.

Sources say that the new SoC will be available next year. We know that it will be produced according to the 6 nm process technology at the facilities of TSMC. Apparently, this will not be a flagship solution, since already in 2024 Oppo should release a more productive SoC with an integrated modem. Apparently, this means that the first platform, which will launch next year, will not receive a built-in modem.

Unfortunately, there are no technical details. We can assume that Oppo’s first solution will rely entirely on Arm’s reference cores; that is, Cortex processors and Mali graphics. Considering Oppo’s relationship with Vivo, Realme and OnePlus; it cannot be ruled out that the new SoC will also appear on the smartphones of these companies.
