Motorola officially confirmed that it’s working on a new foldable smartphone for its Moto RAZR series. Unlike previous iterations that had mid-range processors, the company has decided to go full flagship this time around. The Motorola RAZR 3 will leave the appeal to nostalgia behind and will bring a modern design and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. If launched before August, the Motorola RAZR 3 may come as the very first true flagship foldable smartphone of 2022. After all, the previous Oppo Find N and Vivo X Pad use older chipsets. The Motorola RAZR 3 has been leaking a lot lately, and today, we got a small hands-on clip showing the phone’s device.
Motorola RAZR 3 design revealed
The Motorola RAZR 3 has emerged in a quick hands-on video. The design seems to have changed a lot compared to the original Motorola RAZR 2019 and the RAZR 5G from 2020. The device no longer has the trademark RAZR chin at the bottom. As expected, it now resembles Samsung’s Flip design more than any previous RAZR. The Motorola RAZR will bring two main cameras, and also has a centered punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera on the inner folding screen. Apparently, the phone does not have absolutely any crease, which is a plus.

Key details
Also following the rumors, the phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. However, that’s not a surprise, after all this design is challenging. It’s not an easy task to make a foldable and put a fingerprint scanner underneath the foldable screen. So, the side seems to be a more convenient place. Furthermore, the phone has a big external screen. This makes the side-mounted scanner even more useful when the device is “locked/folded”. The screen is big, but we don’t know exactly if it will support rich interactions or will be just a viewfinder. The big external screen is useful for checking notifications, and incoming calls and as a viewfinder for selfies with the main camera.
Unfortunately, the small clip does not have other details to reveal. Anyway, given the number of leaks popping out everywhere, we expect more details to appear soon. We expect the phone to bring a single capable camera and an ultrawide snapper. Unfortunately, we’re not expecting a massive battery, but there should be an upgrade over the previous generations.
As per rumors, the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra will launch in July with a 200 MP camera and SD8+ Gen 1. We may see the foldable popping out in the same month.
