OnePlus recently invited its fans and users to give some feedback for the upcoming OxygenOS 13 release. There are a lot of opinions, but there is a consensus among users, most of them believe that OxygenOS 12.1 is basically a ColorOS skin, and they want OxygenOS 13 to revert the software back to its original form. The changes with OxygenOS 12 weren’t a big surprise, especially after Oppo and OnePlus announced a merger between the two companies. Oppo, now acting as the “head company” revealed that ColorOS and OxygenOS would eventually become the same thing. The company started the development of a new software skin based on both ColorOS and OxygenOS. However, in a recent twist, the company announced that the plans have been halted.
The company launched OxygenOS 12.1 bringing strong similarities with ColorOS. Users weren’t happy with the changes and have been putting pressure on the company. Earlier this year, OnePlus announced that OxygenOS 13 will revert back to its original influences. Instead of being similar to ColorOS, the new operating system will bring back the vanilla Android inspirations and influences. During the past weekend, OnePlus Community launched a survey asking netizens what they think of OxygenOS and what to do next. The consensus was basically: Bring OxygenOS 13 back to its original form and leave ColorOS for Oppo devices.
OxygenOS 13 needs to revert the experience to vanilla-like Android
A user left the following comment:
Gizchina News of the week
“I just updated my Nord 2 to Android 12. I have to tell you it’s ColorOS. While I love the animations, I miss the clean OxygenOS experience this company used to offer. Please take that back. This is my humble request.”
Another user asked the company to make it “genuine OxygenOS and not ColorOS”. There were numerous complaints about the current experience with OxygenOS 12 and most of the fans are asking the company to bring back the pure Android experience. Interestingly, one user posted “Try to leave feedback for new features, and stop asking them to bring back it to the original form”. However, instead of comments for new features, most users used the space to complain about the current OxygenOS 12.
As we’ve said before, OnePlus has already revealed that OxygenOS 13 will return to the vanilla Android experience. However, not much info about this “return” has been given. We expect the company to reveal its plans for OxygenOS 13 in the next few months. For now, the company will need to deal with the complaints of users that aren’t happy with OxygenOS 12.
Worth noting that in China, the OnePlus smartphones ship with ColorOS. The company has completely ditched the HydrogenOS branch, and OnePlus and Oppo smartphones are almost the same in the domestic market. This is something that global fans of the OnePlus that launched with CyanogenOS will not digest easily. As far as Oppo is concerned, the company has already begun the development of ColorOS 13.
