The data of 5.4 million Twitter users is on sale for $ 30 thousand

A well-known hacker forum offered to buy a database; with phone numbers and email addresses of 5.4 million Twitter users for $30,000.

Restore Privacy said the data breach was made possible by a Twitter security vulnerability discovered back in January. Then HackerOne reported a bug that allows an attacker to get the phone number; and/or email address of a Twitter member; even if he has hidden these fields in the privacy settings in his account.

Although Twitter acknowledged the problem and fixed the vulnerability, hackers used this exploit to gain access to user data, which they are now trying to sell on the Breached Forums. The attackers claim that the proposed database contains information about some celebrities, companies, etc.

Restore Privacy says it has downloaded a portion of a database for review and analysis that contains publicly available information from Twitter user profiles around the world, as well as email addresses and phone numbers.

The first court hearing in the crumbling Twitter and Elon Musk deal took place in absentia on Tuesday; as Judge Kathaleen McCormick showed symptoms of the coronavirus. The outcome of the meeting was the decision to hold the main hearings on the case in an expedited manner; in five days in October. Dragging out the process, the judge agreed, hurts Twitter.

Recall that representatives of Elon Musk insisted on giving them time to collect evidence of exceeding the shares of questionable Twitter accounts of the five percent level mentioned by opponents. Hearings in the case were supposed to begin in February next year; but the judge yesterday agreed with Twitter’s arguments; which cited significant material damage to the company due to the continued uncertainty of the future pending the court’s verdict. Also, according to the judge, a long wait for the outcome of the trial; increases the risk of causing “irreparable damage to the seller” in such cases.
