According to recent reports, Verizon is working hard to ensure it has the fastest 5G in the United States. The network carries is expanding its C-band spectrum in “many markets in the United States” to 100 MHz. This is a significant increase from the 60 MHz that is currently used in the 5G market to date. According to the carrier, the spectrum upgrade to the 5G Ultra Wideband allows Verizon to offer higher speeds to more customers. In addition to that, the company will offer its 5G home broadband and business internet services to more customers in more places.
Kyle Malady, executive vice president and president of Verizon Worldwide Networks and Technology states:
“Going from using the 60MHz to 100MHz C-band (which will eventually be available in many markets in the US) allows us to support more network traffic, provide better performance for our customers, and add new products and services on top of it Mobile and fixed wireless access solutions.”
As per the statement, Verizon plans to further increase its spectrum. Over the next few years, Verizon plans to give customers access to up to 200 MHz of C-band spectrum. This means that more and more users will gradually use 5G services on their mobile devices. Of course, not only simple 5G, but ultra-fast 5G speeds.
Gizchina News of the week
Unfortunately, there is always a price increase that comes alongside these changes. With the increase to 100 Mhz spectrum, Verizon is increasing the prices. Back in the last month, Verizon raised the prices of some wireless plans. The company states that it’s just adding an “economic adjustment fee” to customers’ bills. For that reason, we won’t be surprised to see further adjustments in the coming months. The upgrade to 200 MHz certainly will not come without a huge investment. In fact, the price of 5G plans is raising.
Verizon is one of the strongest forces in the United States telecom market. We are curious to see if the company will attract more customers with the new development. The US market is rising, but China still takes the lead.
