Samsung clearly has revamped its software experience with One UI. The company exorcised the ghost of TouchWiz with a much more stable experience, less bloated, and also offers better support. Nowadays, the company is among the best in terms of software support. Therefore, we expect the Korean firm to be among the first rolling Android 13 for its smartphones. It will come in the form of One UI 5.0. According to recent reports, the new Android 13-based software, currently under beta testing will get a stable release by October.
Google went ahead of the schedule established in the past years, rolling out the new software update in August. To recall, the last time this happened was in 2016 with the release of Android Nougat. Since then, the company has been rolling its software updates in September. With this earlier release, some third-party OEMs will have more time to work on their respective Android 13-based builds. Therefore, many users will be able to get the latest software experience before 2023, when a new version will be announced. Samsung has already begun its One UI 5.0 beta program. Apparently, the first public release will happen towards the end of October. Obviously, we expect the Samsung Galaxy S23 series to get it first.
According to Twitter user @RoderSuper, the Samsung One UI 5.0 based on Android 13 will roll out on either October 17 or October 19. The update will initially roll out to the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. It includes the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra smartphones.
Gizchina News of the week
The One UI 5.0 beta program started a couple of weeks ago, therefore, given to Samsung’s recent pace, October seems like a reasonable window. Since there is still a full month, and maybe more, ahead of the release, Samsung may have enough time to work on the bugs. In fact, the Korean firm has been working on One UI 5.0 since the first beta of Android 13. Furthermore, we assume that Google has sent the “finished Android” sources to Android OEMs much ahead of the actual release. So much work has been done behind the curtains.
One UI 5.0 brings new features; more devices will get it after October
This source does not have the most trustable track record, but we have enough reasons to believe in it. As per the reports, the One UI 5.0 will bring a bunch of new customization options. For instance, Samsung will offer users the possibility to pick from 16 preset color themes based on their wallpaper. Furthermore, it will be possible to stack widgets on top of each other on the home screen. Furthermore, the company will improve the security and accessibility features.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 are also probably among the first to get One UI 5.0. Samsung will then move to the old flagships that have support. The list is long since the brand has been offering 3 to 4 years of updates to some of its smartphones. The mid-range smartphones, will likely get the update only by December or even in January 2023. The best-selling Galaxy A5x and A7x smartphones will certainly be among the first.
