Samsung is moving too fast to prepare for the Galaxy S23 series launch. Okay, maybe not so fast, after all, the upcoming flagships are at least four months away from release. Anyway, this can’t prevent the rumors and leaks from spreading. Today’s leak, states that the Korean firm will stick with the Exynos chips for some of the S23 models.
Galaxy S23 – no upgrades and Exynos…
So far, there have been multiple reports about the core of the Galaxy S23 series. Some of these reports have been pointing to the exclusive use of Snapdragon chips within the 2023 flagships. However, a fresh report states that the Korean firm is not giving up on the Exynos division.
That’s not a big surprise, after all, Samsung spent years investing in the Exynos chips. The company is also pushing its 3nm manufacturing, and will not lose the opportunity. Unfortunately, the Exynos chips aren’t fan-fave chips. This year’s Exynos 2200 can be considered a partial disaster. After all, the performance was not on par with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. This urged Samsung to launch Snapdragon versions in more markets this year. The big marketing on the AMD’s RDNA GPU didn’t pay the bills, apparently.
Apparently, the upcoming Exynos 2300 with a new generation of AMD’s GPU, will power some Galaxy S23 models. As per the reports, the new Exynos is on par with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. We assume that Samsung will use a similar architecture. However, the manufacturing differs. Qualcomm will retain its partnership with TSMC.
Exynos 2300 alleged specs
The exact specifications are still in the air. However, we expect the new round of ARMv9 cores to mark its presence. Hence, we can expect a main Cortex-X3 core, three Cortex-A715, and four Cortex-A510 cores. The GPU is a new Xclipse GPU with AMD technology.

After all, Samsung is confident in the partnership and will keep bringing RDNA-based GPUs on Exynos chips. The icing on the cake certainly is the 3nm manufacturing. Theoretically, it will ensure better thermal management and more energy efficiency.
Samsung retains Apple’s philosophy
If you’re not a fan of Exynos, then depending on your region, the S23 series will disappoint. However, the CPU is not the only possible negative aspect of the series. If you’re constantly seeking changes and new technologies, then the Galaxy S23 series isn’t for you. Apparently, the Korean firm will keep most of the specifications. The S23 and S23 Plus may bring better display tech, but will retain the same size and design.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra, as usual, is the more interesting variant. It will come with a 200 MP main camera. This sensor may end up as a novelty. Perhaps, Samsung will debut the new ISOCELL HP2. According to rumors, the new snapper has a size of 1/1.13-inches and 0.6um pixel size. Moreover, there’s a larger aperture of f/1.7.
No in-display camera tech on the Galaxy S23 series
Unlike promising rumors, Samsung may not debut a new in-display camera tech. Not even the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will bring this technology. Honestly, one time that Samsung considers Apple its biggest competitor there is no need for fancy tech right now. To recall, half of the iPhone 14 series has the old notch design. The other half brings a new iteration of punch-hole, that thanks to a software feature, also looks like a floating notch, or better saying… (cough) (cough)… Dynamic Island.
Anyway, the Galaxy S23 Ultra which figures as the best offering, does not seems to be bringing many novelties. Apart from the new camera, the device will retain the same design. Therefore, we expect the same display size with some improvements in the quality. So, the upgrades will rely on the camera and performance. So it’s up to you to decide whether it’s an upgrade or not.
The Exynos lineup needs some rest, seriously
For now, we’ll have to wait and see if Samsung’s decision will be the right one. After all, the anti-Exynos bandwagon got louder this year. The company’s flagship SoC was not on par with 2022 standards. Moreover, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, using the company’s chipset manufacturing was bad in energy efficiency and thermal generation. Will customers trust a new Exynos iteration? Time will tell. But trust means more sales for the Galaxy S23 series.
