Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 specs emerge – Slashes the competition

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Qualcomm is expected to reveal its next big thing for the flagship market in less than two months. The next Snapdragon Summit Event is scheduled for November, and the company will reveal the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC at the stage. According to leaks, the chipset will fully employ the latest ARMv9 core technology. Today, the specifications for the upcoming system on the chip have been revealed.

Previously, Digital Chat Station said Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with codename SD8550 will have 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 cluster arrangement. These clusters were bringing 1 x ARM Cortex-X3, 2 x ARM Cortex-A720, 2 x ARM Cortex-A710 and 3 x ARM Cortex-A510 cores. The chipset will have a 10% performance increment. However, new info appears today with different specs.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 alleged specifications

As per the reliable tipster Ice Universe, the SD8 Gen 2 will have two ARM Cortex-A715 cores instead of the Cortex-A720. Also, the ARM Cortex-X3 will have a maximum clock speed of 3.2 GHz. The ARM Cortex-A715 and A710 cores will have a clock speed of 2.8 GHz. Finally, the ARM Cortex-A510, on the other hand, will go up to 2 GHz. When it comes to graphical tasks, the Adreno family will also bring an upgrade. We expect the company to introduce the Adreno 740 GPU. Unfortunately, there aren’t technical details about this GPU. However, we expect improvements in gaming and video editing.

Interestingly, some leaks also point to the existence of an ultra-high frequency variant for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This one will have a clock speed of 3.4 and 3.5 GHz. However, we may see this actually coming as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2. We expect more details to keep appearing in the coming days. The Snapdragon Summit Event will happen between November 15-17. We expect the first day of the event to reveal the new flagship chip.

The competition

When it comes to competition, MediaTek is one of the greatest rivals for Qualcomm. However, the Taiwanese company still falls behind in the super-flagship segment. The Dimensity 9000 / Dimensity 9000+ are really good and high-end processors. However, most companies still pick Snapdragon at the end of the day. We expect, the Taiwanese firm to launch a competitor for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The big question now is the name of the SoC. Dimensity 9100 or Dimensity 10000?

Samsung may also have its answer for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Or at least, a partial answer, since only a few Galaxy S23 series phones will have it. Anyway, the Korean firm will launch the Exynos 2300 with similar architecture.

Worth noting that Qualcomm is sticking with TSMC. The plans are to bring more Snapdragon families to TSMC’s manufacturing.
