Samsung is gearing up to introduce the Samsung Galaxy S23 series and the leaks keep popping out everywhere. We don’t think there will be many surprises left until the release time. After all, the phones had their design exposed and the vanilla went through Geekbench to put the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 under stress. Now, a new report confirms that the Galaxy S22 should not see a big reason to upgrade.
Galaxy S23 – just an incremental evolution and design change
The Samsung Galaxy S23 will bring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Yes, that is the major and most relevant difference when you compare it with the S22. Samsung’s premium phone has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in some markets and the Exynos 2200 in others. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, at least on paper, is a significant evolution over these SoCs. But when it comes to the rest of the specs, then, we’re not seeing major advancements.
The Geekbench test proved that Samsung, for another year, will keep using 8 GB of RAM. While some flagships are playing in the 16 GB territory, Samsung will keep offering 8 GB like its past three models. Unfortunately, the Korean firm is really following Apple, when it comes to following hardware trends. The Galaxy S20 had a 12 GB RAM variant, but apparently, this will remain in the past for the vanilla series.
The tipster Yogesh Brar shared some additional specs of the Galaxy S23. Besides the 8 GB of RAM, the phone will have 128 GB or 256 GB of Internal Storage. Moreover, the new phone will have a 3,900 mAh battery. That is larger than the S22, but below the S21 and S20. The charging is also a disappointment for fast-charging tech fans. The company will bring 25W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The company didn’t overcome the Darth Plagueis tragedy, I mean, Galaxy Note 7’s tragedy. Again, this is another aspect where Apple is conservative.
Gizchina News of the week
When it comes to optics, the new Galaxy S23 will have a 50 MP main camera with OIS, a 12 MP ultrawide shooter, and a 10 MP telephoto. The selfie snapper is a 10 MP unit that is close to the same package offered with the S22 lineup. Anyway, rumors say that the S23 may bring some refreshes in optics’ hardware.
The phone will have a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with Full HD+ resolution. According to IceUniverse, the phone’s bezels will be slightly thicker. Moving around to the back, the major change – was the S22 Ultra-esque design. As per leaked renders, Samsung is bringing the entire lineup to the same design. The camera island is gone, instead, we’ll have individual holes for each camera. So the Galaxy S23 will have the same specs as its predecessor, but with a different body.
The S23 Ultra is the true flagship
Every year, Samsung makes it clear – the true flagship is the Ultra. Although the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus are here to complete the lineup, and to offer more diversity, the bigger hardware advances will always come within the Ultra. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will not be an exception. The phone is the one with the larger battery and faster charging. It’s 45W, not the fastest standard available, but still the fastest for Samsung.
The camera department also gets more love. In addition to capable auxiliary cameras, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will bring a 200 MP main camera. As per the rumors, this particular camera is not the same as found in the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra or the Xiaomi 12T Pro. Samsung may use an all-new sensor for its own flagship.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra is the more relevant player, just like the iPhone 14 Pro Max is for Apple. Similarly, it is also the more expensive option. So, in the end, the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus are incremental offerings for those who want a new flagship for Samsung but don’t want to pay the maximum price.
