Vivo is gearing up to introduce the Vivo X90 series and that is not a secret anymore. The company never confirmed the existence of the Vivo X80 Pro+. However, the rumors stated that the device almost saw the light of day, but the company scrapped it to focus on the Vivo X90 series. The undeniable proof of the Vivo X90 series’ arrival is that the company is teasing the camera capabilities of the series.
Vivo, alongside ZEISS, has been hard at work developing the camera technology for the upcoming Vivo X90 series of flagships. The system brings several parts that are responsible for specific tasks. The end goal of the system is to create a digital image that perfectly matches what the human eyes see in the scene.
The new tech focuses on two scenarios that are still challenging for smartphones, night photography, and portraits. The Chinese brand and ZEISS are working hard to improve this technology. However, some of the improvements have been developed by Vivo itself. Some of the techs, on the other hand, get the expertise of ZEISS. Both are working to ensure the best quality in the coming Vivo X90 series.
New Technologies to improve Portraits and Night Photography
The system brings a new optical system. The tech uses advanced lenses and coatings and also improves the signal-to-noise ratio of the image sensor. After that, the True Color Restoration Engine is responsible for figuring out the right white balance. The tech coming with the X90 series also brings the Ultra-Clear Image Quality Engine.
Gizchina News of the week
As per the company, it’s a super-resolution algorithm. It makes use of a virtual model of the lens to recover around 35% of the information that was lost due to optical imperfections. Moreover, there is a multi-frame mode that improves the image quality and dynamic range even further. The tech will be especially useful for periscope lenses.
The Vivo X90 series will also bring portrait improvements. There is a new system split into three parts. The first part will understand the scene and detect up to 103 feature points on the face of a particular subject. The next two parts will split the work. One deals with the subject and will use machine-learning beauty filters. The other will adjust the background by tuning several dials (blur, tone, brightness, and more).
There is another system coming with the Vivo X90 series. It will improve low-light photography. There is a 2x increase in the camera’s maximum sensitivity. It allows the phone’s camera to reach an ISO of 102,400. The system allows the user to capture a photo of a starry night sky without a tripod or a long exposure.
Vivo X90 series to introduce a new custom ISP
The camera says that the next-gen flagships, Vivo X90, Vivo X90 Pro, and Pro+ will have 77% better light sensitivity than the custom ISOCELL GNV sensor in the Vivo X80. The company, alongside ZEISS, is developing a new 50mm portrait lens. The image processing, AI, deep learning, and everything are probably handled by a custom ISP. We’re likely seeing the Vivo V1 successor. Perhaps, Vivo’s V2 ISP.
For now, there is no word on the Vivo X90 series launch. Anyway, the new camera tech sounds like a teaser for some. As per the rumors, the X90 Pro+ will likely bring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. So we’re probably seeing a launch after December.
