Xiaomi brought the Redmi Note 12 series to the market today, and unlike the predictions, the company introduced a total of four smartphones. There is an all-new Redmi Note 12 Explorer Edition that raises the bar for fast-charging tech with 210W charging. In this article, we will talk about this particular edition.
Redmi Note 12 Explorer Edition with 210W charging
Nearly two years ago, Xiaomi presented its 200W charging standard to the world. The company showed a tech demo with the promise of commercial availability at a certain point. Now, the standard is finally reaching the market in a new phone, and it’s even higher with 210W. It’s ridiculously high! The curious fact is that it’s almost ten times higher than some premium flagships in the market (cough..cough…Galaxy S22).
The Redmi Note 12 Explorer Edition is what we can call a “super-mid-range” phone. It retains the same specifications as the Redmi Note 12 Pro+. However, while the Pro+ has 120W charging speed, the Explorer brings it to 210W charging. That comes at a cost. The Pro+ has a 5,000 mAh battery, while the Explorer reduces the capacity to 4,300 mAh. As per the announcement, Xiaomi had to meet very specific requirements when building this battery.

The 210W charging is included in the package
As per the company, a complete charge in the Redmi Note 12 Explorer takes only 9 minutes. With just 5 minutes of charging, the phone already has 66% of juice. The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ with 120W charging will take 19 minutes to get a full charge. Worth noting, however, that the Pro+ has a bigger battery, maybe the extra endurance will make you happily wait more than 10 minutes. Worth noting that this is a proprietary technology, which probably requires the bundled charge to work fine. There is an upcoming USB-PD standard with 50V at 5A that will provide 240W. Xiaomi’s solution, however, has a 20V of voltage. The company splits the electricity into three channels of 20V at 3.5A each.
While some companies are not giving you chargers, Xiaomi has a pretty advanced charger included with the Redmi Note 12 Explorer. Despite its capabilities, it’s a small charger thanks to GaN tech. This one promises to output its full 210W even in countries with 110V electrical grids. The supplied 1m cable has an E-mark chip to make sure it is used safely only with supported chargers. The charger will not provide the 210W without this tech. In other devices, the charger will output 65W through USB-PD tech.
Specs and Pricing
As we’ve said before, the Redmi Note 12 Explorer has the same specs as the Pro+. Therefore, there is a 6.6-inch OLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. The phone brings a 200 MP main camera with OIS, an 8 MP ultrawide snapper, and a 2 MP macro camera. Under the hood, we have the Dimensity 1080 with up to 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of Storage.
The phone will reach the market on October 31. The variant with 8GB/256GB has a price of CNY 2,400. For now, there is no word on global availability.
