As planned, Huawei hosted a big event today. At the conference, the first-tier China-based tech company uncovered several new products, including a new clamshell smartphone. The Huawei Pocket S has been the talk of the town for a while. Now, it’s officially out.
At the event, the company’s spokesperson said that Huawei is an absolute leader in the domestic folding screen smartphone market. It occupies 52% of the Chinese market. Thus, when buying foldable handsets, one out of two prefers Huawei.
The key to success is that Huawei continuously improves its foldable smartphones’ performance. The enhancements refer to all aspects, including structure, design, and overall experience. “Huawei will continue to break through technological bottlenecks and lead the industry in innovation.”
Huawei Pocket S Appearance
The Huawei Pocket S inherits the design style of the previous Huawei P50 Pocket. It adopts a top-down folding solution. Compared to the previous model, it’s lighter, thinner, and more compact overall.
What we like is that the new model offers up to 6 colorways. They include Obsidian Black, Frost Silver, Mint Green, Sakura Pink, Primrose Gold, and Ice Crystal Blue. Thus, any customer can find a color option meeting his/her preferences.
As for folding structure, it has the industry’s first multi-dimensional linkage lifting water drop hinge. It forms a water drop-shaped screen space at the bending point. As a result, it’s more comfortable to hold.
At the same time, it uses various innovative materials such as zirconium-based liquid metal. Moreover, the MIM steel material reaches the highest strength in the industry. It is self-developed by the “Huawei Super Materials Laboratory.” This material is impact-resistant, non-deformable, tough, and durable.
Overall, Huawei Pocket S can withstand 400,000 repeated folding. So even if it is folded 200 times a day, it can last more than five years.
Screens
The 6.9-inch foldable display comes with basically the same width on all sides and a screen ratio of 21:9. It has 442ppi pixel density for ultra-clear content display. Also, the screen supports 1.07 billion colors, P3 wide color gamut color management, intelligent refresh rate adjustment of up to 120Hz, an ultra-high touch sampling rate of up to 300Hz, and 1440Hz PWM dimming.
On the back, we can also find a small external screen. Along with the rear camera, they form a Vientiane double-ring design. You can easily view notifications, phone calls, photos, weather, and other applications without unfolding. At the same time, you can also perform other operations, such as payments.
Gizchina News of the week
This is a 1.04-inch 340 × 340 circular OLED screen. By the way, the main screen has a 2790 × 1188 resolution and uses OLED material as well.
The phone also supports HDR Vivid video display, with richer colors and layers and stronger contrast between light and dark. At the same time, it also adopts anti-reflective nano-optical film, which can also clearly display content under direct sunlight.
Imaging System
The Huawei Pocket S sports a super-sensing imaging system and RYYB super-sensing sensor. The latter increases the amount of light entering by 40%.
The camera includes a super-sensing 40-megapixel RYYB 1/1.7-inch sensor. It has an aperture of f/1.8. At the same time, there is a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (aperture f/2.2) and a laser focus sensor. The camera supports the Huawei XMAGE imaging system.
You can use the Huawei Pocket S to take a selfie with the 10.7-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (f / 2.2 aperture). And for this, you don’t have to unfold the phone. You can also double-tap the screen to switch to the ultra-wide-angle mode. This will allow for taking multi-person shots.
The Huawei Pocket S’ super-sensing sensor works with a new night scene algorithm to optimize the texture of light and shadow.
Hardware and Performance
The Huawei Pocket S adopts the industry’s first ultra-cold flexible graphene heat dissipation system. The cross-axis graphene heat-conducting layer conducts cross-axis, efficient heat conduction, and the heat-conducting area is increased by 80%.
Besides this, inside, you can find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 4G processor. We understand that this is not the most powerful chipset out there. But the Snapdragon 778G has proven its high-performance class. Actually, this phone doesn’t focus on performance. So what this processor offers and is capable of doing is satisfactory.
Our protagonist features a 4000mAh battery. The latter supports 40W fast charging. In simple words, the phone might reach 52% of power in 20 minutes.
Regarding connectivity, the Huawei Pocket S has a super antenna signal. Also, it supports Wi-Fi 6. Here, we should focus more on the antenna design. The phone adopts a new antenna design, which allows users to use it in an unfolded or folded state. Now, there is no difference in what you are doing for the handset. You can hold it with a single hand, play games, browse web pages, etc. It will freely switch antennas to bring users a smoother network communication experience.
