After the official commercialization of 5G in India, several brands are now releasing updates for their devices. Indian telecom operators Airtel, Jio and Vi launched 5G services in October this year. These carriers only offer 5G services in a few regions. However, to enable 5G connectivity, smartphone makers must roll out firmware updates for eligible devices. A few weeks ago, Apple India confirmed that eligible iPhones would get a firmware update in December. This firmware update will ensure that compatible iPhones can support 5G connectivity. There will be 13 iPhone models in India supporting 5G connectivity.
A new report from India’s Economic Times shows that Apple plans to roll out a firmware update next week to enable 5G connectivity on eligible iPhone models. The update will be rolling out as part of the iOS 16 Beta program. Thus, it will only be available to users running the new iOS 16.2 Beta on their iPhones.
The report also claims that Apple executives will soon meet with members of India’s Ministry of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to inform them of the launch of the iOS 16 public beta firmware. In the upcoming iOS 16 public beta, the 5G iPhones will support Airtel 5G Plus and Jio True 5G
