An employee of Google’s silicon team describes the significant advancements that the new Google Tensor G2 from the Pixel 7 smartphones makes to the camera in almost a cautionary manner. He educates and provides some future information.
Champ (Tzu-Hung) Yen openly says the fact that Google focused excessively on the new Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) during the announcement of the Pixel 7 series, leaving little time for other crucial improvements. For instance, the DSP, or digital signal processor, is a crucial point.
It appears as though Google has integrated a new DSP because it is hardly recognizable. There is undoubtedly some improvement over the first generation Tensor (Pixel 6), though.
Pixel 7: the camera will get better with updates
The new DSP, likely a Google internal development, can enhance image processing. This has already been available, but with subsequent Pixel Feature Drops, it will expand even further. Future updates, according to Yen, should improve the performance and the user experience.
Gizchina News of the week
There will be a new Pixel Feature Drop as soon as December of next year. Which is now only one month away. It’s the first significant update for the Pixel 7 phones, so in addition to bug fixes, some new features are anticipated. Even though there aren’t many reasons to complain, let’s see if Google can already make improvements to the camera.
Google is working harder and harder to ensure that more and more crucial hardware parts are optimized for its own pixel devices through its own research and development. This is due to the second Tensor generation.
The designs of the Google Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro are strikingly similar. But when you look at both phones from behind, you can really tell the difference between them. In the Pixel 6 Pro, Google chose not to include the full glass camera bump.
It’s a great idea that the Pixel 7 Pro has a metallic camera bump. Users of the Pixel 6 Series have reportedly unintentionally broken their camera bumps. This is because the Google Pixel 6 series used camera bumps made entirely of glass.
