Twitter to roll out view count – 90% of users read but don’t tweet, reply or like

Elon Musk

Twitter’s CEO, Elon Musk, has been making several changes at Twitter to make the system “better”. However, many consider Musk “unstable” and maybe “too busy” to take decent decisions for Twitter. In a recent poll organized by Elon Musk himself, 57.5% of 17 million voters voted for Musk to quit his position as Twitter CEO. A minority 42.5% voted for Elon Musk to stay. Although Musk claims that he will abide by the vote, he also stated that he will leave his position as Twitter’s CEO as soon as he finds a viable person. How soon will this be? We do not know. In another swift move,Ā Elon Musk announced a new Twitter feature in his latest tweet – View Count.

The new view count feature from Musk will allow users to know how much a tweet has been read/viewed.Ā Musk said that the original intention of citing the View Count function is to show users that “Twitter is actually more active than you expect”. He claims that with this feature, Twitter users can more intuitively know how many people use Twitter and visit tweets.

Twitter View Count is Here

Musk also believes that since the majority of Twitter users (more than 90%, according to Musk) do not engage in public actions on the platform (including likes, retweets, and replies), View Count will give us a clearer picture of a tweet’s worth user engagement. Twitter had a similar function before, but it was only open to tweeters. Tweeters can click “View Tweet Analytics” to see how visitors are interacting with your Tweets.

However, Elon Musk will now make the feature to the public so people can know their reading volume. Unlike other controversial decisions like the $8 for verification decision, this View Count is actually quite good. We want to believe that Twitter will give users the option to choose whether to activate or deactivate the feature.

Elon Musk is quite correct. In his tweet making the announcement, it has less than 35k retweets and less than 400k likes. However, it has over 50 million views. While some criticize Musk saying the feature already exists as “impressions”, others say they hate it. It is however important to know one thing, tons of people “hate” Musk and whatever he does. Even if Elon Musk solves the world’s biggest problem today, we will most likely find a tweet that says “I hate it”. Elon Musk has done well with View Count. Firstly, it is now very easy for all to see it and secondly, it proves that Twitter does not lack users as much as many people want to make it seem.
