Realmeannounced a new event for the Chinese audience on January 5. On that date, the brand is expected to disclose its new 240W charging standard. It will raise the bar of charging speed for all smartphones, as the top currently belongs to the Redmi Note 12 Explorer with 210W charging. As per the rumors, the brand already knows which phone will debut this tech – the Realme GT Neo 5. The phone will be a true cost-effective flagship this time around, and a new report lists some of its possible specifications.
Realme GT Neo 5 with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, 50 MP camera with OIS, and 240W charging
Ahead of the launch, a new poster appeared in China showing the Realme GT Neo 5 and some of its key specs. The poster looks like a fan-made job using the leaked renders, but we have to agree that some of these specs make sense. The phone is reportedly coming with 240W charging and has a triple-camera setup. Under the hood, it will bring the excellent Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. That means it will offer the same level of performance as the 2022 flagships. Moreover, it will compete in the same category as the Redmi K60.
Gizchina News of the week
The source also claims the main camera will be a 50-Megapixel Sony IMX890 sensor with OIS. This snapper is present in Oppo phones like the Reno 9 Pro+ and the Find N2. We suggest you digest this with a pinch or two of salt, after all, the Realme GT Neo 5 will sell at a lower price tag. Anyway, the sensor is just one of the wheels moving the camera system. The OIS is not a big surprise, since it is already present in the mid-range category, and the GT Neo 5 will come above it. The others sensors likely are an 8 Megapixel ultrawide shooter, and a 2 Megapixel Macro or Depth unit.
Two different versions?
The Realme GT Neo 5 is rumored to bring a 4,600 mAh battery with 240W charging. Some rumors point to the launch of another variant with a 5,000 mAh battery. The second variant will get the last year’s 150W charging and will have the Dimensity 8200. For now, you should digest this news with a pinch or two of salt. Realme launched two variants for the GT Neo 3 with different batteries and charging speeds. However, the processor was the same for both.
For now, there is no word regarding the launch date. Considering the leaks, and the announcement of the charging tech, we expect it to hit the market in Q1 2023.
