If you have an old Apple iPad, iPhone, or iPad that is due for a battery replacement, you should not wait any longer! Apple is increasing the price of out-of-warranty battery replacements. And in the near future, you will have to pay $50 more to replace the battery of all older models.
Apple is set to change this battery replacement policy from March 1, 2023. That means you still have time to check your older devices’ battery health and opt for a replacement. Although we did not get a formal announcement regarding this, Apple might publish the details pretty soon.
The Battery Replacement Price Hike of Apple
A keen-eyed Redditor spotted the price hike on Apple’s support website. As per the fine print that is under the “Get an Estimate” tool for iPhone battery replacements, there are these few lines:
current out-of-warranty battery service fee will apply until the end of February 2023. Effective March 1, 2023, the out-of-warranty battery service will increase by $20 for all iPhone models prior to iPhone 14.
This means that the battery replacement for the Apple iPhone 13 and older full-screen iPhones will see an increase from $69 to $89. And the fee for the home button replacement is also about to increase. You will need to pay $69 instead of the previously set $49 replacement price for that.
It’s Not Just Apple iPhones
Like the support website of Apple iPhones, the iPad Repair & Service page states that the battery replacement fee for the older generation iPads is about to increase. TheĀ service fee will increase by $20 for these:
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th Gen and older)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (3rd Gen and older)
- iPad Pro 10.5-inch
- iPad Pro 9.7-inch
- iPad mini (6th Gen and older)
- iPad Air (5th Gen and older)
Mac users are about the get the same treatment. In fact, they are the ones that will have to shell out more than the iPhones and iPads. The battery service fee for all theĀ MacBook Air models is about to increase by $30. AndĀ for theĀ MacBook and MacBook Pro models, the price will increase by $50.

That said,Ā the price hike of Apple battery replacement will not affect the users who have AppleCare or AppleCare+. That means if you are rocking the premium servicing plans for your Apple devices, you are exempted from the price tag.

What You Should Do Now
Regardless of how much the price is about to change for your country, I recommend you replace your Apple device’s battery now. This will allow you to avoid the increased fee that is about to be in effect from March 1, 2023.
And after getting the battery replacement, you should follow these to extend the battery lifespan:
- Avoid extreme ambient temperatures
- Turn the automatic battery health management on
- Do not let the battery fully drain
- If you are not planning to use the phone for a prolonged time, store it half-charged
- While charging, if the battery is getting too hot, unplug it and let the device cool down first
