Since the super-well-received Galaxy S8 and S9 series, the Samsung flagship phones have always had mixed opinions and reviews. And from the recent leaks and rumors, the Galaxy S23 will not be an exception in that regard.
Whether it was the lackluster battery life and fingerprint reader of the S10, the endurance and high price of the S20, or the plastic design of the S21, Samsung managed to create interesting controversy around the flagship phones. And the trend might continue for a good while.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Will Just Be Another Vanilla Flagship
The last year’s Galaxy S22 barely nailed it in every factor. Its overall design was hard to beat, especially when you looked at it from the front. Even with nearly perfected aesthetics, the 2022 Samsung Galaxy flagship was not quite perfect.
Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S22 offered a brilliant display and an excellent set of cameras. But the performance and the endurance were just not on par with some of the other flagships of 2022.
In fact, many considered the base variant, the standard Galaxy S22, a little too pricey. And when you compare it to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, the vanilla Samsung Galaxy S22 did not offer the most bang for the buck.
Now, the soon-to-be-unveiled Samsung Galaxy S23 is set to iron out the imperfections of the Galaxy S22. So, it will potentially become the most well-rounded vanilla flagship since the S8 and S9 series of Samsung.
Basically, it appears that the Galaxy S23 will be an “iPhone” upgrade of Samsung. It does target some areas to improve. And those will only enhance the phone experience. Instead, the S8 and S9 offered an overall brand-new phone. They came with flashy designs and features.
However, it surely is an upgrade for those who are still using the S20, S10, S9, or even S8. But it just isn’t a decent upgrade for those using the S21 or the S22. At least for those who don’t mind having the top-of-the-line specs.
Minor Yet Noticeable Upgrades
If you have been catching up with our latest Galaxy S23 coverage, you might already know the areas where the device will upgrade. And in case you didn’t, the upgrades are primarily on the battery life and camera. Yes, the phone’s SoC will also see an upgrade. But it is quite apparent that 2023 flagships will come with 2023 flagship-level SoC.
When it comes to the battery, the Galaxy S23 will come with a large 3900 mAh battery. But it will have the same 6.1-inch display as the Galaxy S22. And there are improvements in the camera department. However, the Samsung Galaxy S22 already had a pretty decent camera set. At least the Galaxy S22 ultra was great!
On that note, the Galaxy S23 phones are about to come with the same camera hardware as the S22. The Ultra might be an exception in that regard.
Although, Ice Universe, a reliable leaker, promises that the camera hardware will see “many upgrades.” But with the same hardware, all the upgrades will be on the image processing department.
Another thing that makes the Galaxy S23 less interesting is the display. From recent reports, we got to know that all the phones will come with identical displays. At least, we expected the S23 Ultra to come with the latest and the greatest display tech.
Yet Samsung Galaxy S23 Will Do Remarkably Well
Yes, the Pixel 7 and Xiaomi 13 will challenge the Galaxy S23 big time. And you might even find yourself in a dilemma while choosing one of these three devices. But that is applicable only if those phones are sold in your region.
That said, the Samsung Galaxy S23 might be the first phone in recorded history to overtake the processor used in the vanilla iPhone 14 model. But when iPhone 15 is released, Samsung’s reign will drop.
