With the release of the iPhone 14 series, Apple began a new strategy with deeper hardware differences between the vanilla and Pro series. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have better cameras, and better CPU, and also are the only ones with the new Dynamic Display design. For the next iPhone 15 series, Apple plans to keep a gap between the two families. While the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will embrace the new design, there will still be some hardware differences. Besides a different CPU, it seems that the Wi-Fi speeds will also be faster on the higher models. A new report suggests that Wi-Fi 6E is not coming to all variants, as previously thought. In fact, iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Ultra will get Wi-Fi 6E while the non-Pro duo will stick with Wi-Fi 6.
In addition to the rumors, now we have a leaked document that confirms Apple’s plans for Wi-Fi 6E. The info comes from researcher and Apple leaker Unknowz21. The document shows diagrams of the iPhone 15’s antenna architecture. D8x refers to the iPhone 15 Pro models, and the info indicates that the faster Wi-Fi 6E will be available only with the iPhone 15 Pro and the Pro Max (which is expected to come as iPhone 15 Ultra).
Gizchina News of the week
Wi-Fi 6 for the iPhone 15 and Plus, Wi-Fi 6E for the iPhone 15 Pro and Ultra
The vanilla iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will get only Wi-Fi 6. The document points to antenna design changes between the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro series. According to MacRumors, Wi-Fi 6E will arrive as a Pro-only feature. This shouldn’t be a big difference for some users, but those who prefer faster and more stable Wi-Fi certainly will enjoy the upgrade with Wi-Fi 6E.
Wi-Fi 6E has been slowly reaching some Apple products. The latest iPad Pro, Mac Mini, and MacBook Pro models will pack the new tech. With the iPhone 15 Pro series, we’ll see the transition to Wi-Fi 6E, but that’s a pity to see it restricted to the Pro variants. Worth noting, that Wi-Fi 7 standard is not too far from reaching the market. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Wi-Fi 7 coming with a possible iPhone 16 Pro series, while the vanillas get Wi-Fi 6E by 2024.
We still need to mention, that not many routers support Wi-Fi 6E. It’s yet to get popular in the market, and to be honest, we believe that there are still a lot of users around that didn’t even experience Wi-Fi 6. They offer more bandwidth, faster speeds, lower latency, and extra capacity. Wi-Fi 6E provides 1.2 GHz more spectrum in the 6 GHz bands, and can support whole home gigabit coverage. It’s a decent offering for AR and VR experiences.
According to the leaker, the new Wi-Fi 6E info is just the tip of the iceberg. More information will leak as soon as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro series move into more advanced stages of validation.
