Over the years, Samsung uses a dual flagship model in terms of mobile phone chips. This means that it uses both the Snapdragon as well as its in-house Exynos chips for its flagships. While the Snapdragon models are released in China, the U.S. and other big markets, the Exynos model goes to Europe and parts of Asia. However, Samsung’s self-developed Exynos 2300 will no longer be used in the Galaxy S23 series of flagship phones. Instead, the company will use the chip in the Samsung Galaxy S22 FE, a mid-range mobile phone. Now, there are reports that the company will bring back its chips to its flagships. From the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, there will be an Exynos 2400 model.
There are reports that the Samsung Exynos 2400 will start mass production in November this year. The Samsung Galaxy S24 series will be official in 2024 and could use this chip. This chip may only be used for the South Korean version of this mobile phone series. At present, there are two specs rumours about the architecture design of the Samsung Exynos 2400. There is a report that the chip will use the 1+4+3 eight-core architecture. However, there is another report that this device will come with a ten-core 1+2+3+4 architecture.
The expectation is that the Exynos 2400 will come with a Cortex X4 super large core, a Cortex A510 small core and a Cortex A720 large core. However, there is no specific number of large and small cores. There is no leak or rumour regarding the specific number. It is important to note that Samsung has been using Snapdragon chips in its flagship devices in recent years. But there will still be flagship phones equipped with its own Exynos series chips in the Korean market.
In addition, Exynos series chips also have considerable influence in Europe. It is unclear whether the European version of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will use Qualcomm processors or Exynos 2400. At the moment, there is no official comment from Samsung regarding this report.
Samsung Galaxy S23 series exclusive chip exposure: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy
Samsung and Qualcomm have reached an agreement that the upcoming Galaxy S23 series will use an exclusive chipset, officially called “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy”. However, the name looks very lengthy, and Samsung is preparing to simplify it to “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy”. There are reports that the new version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 chip still uses TSMC’s 4nm process. Its super-large core is Cortex X3, and the CPU clock frequency will hit 3.36GHz. This is higher than the 3.2GHz clock frequency that the original model from Qualcomm uses. Samsung made some tweaks to Qualcomm’s chip to make it more powerful.
