We are expected a lot from Samsung’s 2023 proposal Galaxy A series. These devices are important for the South Korean manufacturer as they make up a significant portion of their yearly smartphone shipments. In recent weeks, there have been more and more rumors about these devices as their launch date is approaching.

Now, the nearly complete technical specifications of both the A34 and A54 have been leaked, providing a clear understanding of their potential. These two devices are tasked with carrying on the legacy of the previous Galaxy A33 and A53, which were successful in the mid-range market last year. However, the A53 5G failed to meet expectations when compared to its predecessor, the A52s 5G, which is still considered to be one of the most balanced mid-range smartphones.

Given these circumstances, it is natural to ask what kind of innovations the next flagship devices in the Galaxy A series will bring. The WinFuture portal, which shared the leaked specifications, tries to provide some answers to this question.

Galaxy A54 and A34 design

Samsung is updating its design philosophy with the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54, adopting the new design language that was official with the high-end Galaxy S23 series. The major difference in the design compared to their predecessors is the absence of a protruding island that housed the camera module. Instead, the camera sensors will now be individually protruding.

The Samsung Galaxy A54 will feature a drop notch that will house the front-facing camera, while the Galaxy A34 will have a circular hole. Both devices will have a Super AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2340 pixels), spread across a 6.4-inch diagonal for the Galaxy A54 and a 6.6-inch diagonal for the Galaxy A34.

It’s worth mentioning that compared to the top-of-the-line models, the frames around the displays of these mid-range devices may be slightly thicker. Additionally, both smartphones will support IP67 certification for water and dust resistance.

Galaxy A54 and A34 cameras

Reports suggest that the upcoming smartphones will feature a triple camera setup, which is an improvement over the previous models that had an accessory sensor for depth of field, which is now considered to be unnecessary. The Samsung Galaxy A34 is expected to have the same camera setup as its predecessor, with a 48-megapixel wide-angle sensor (which is optically stabilized), an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 5-megapixel macro sensor. On the front, the smartphone will feature a 13-megapixel camera, located in a drop notch.

The Samsung Galaxy A54, however, is rumored to have a different camera setup compared to its predecessor. The main sensor is expected to be a 50-megapixel one, replacing the 64-megapixel sensor found in the previous model. The new main sensor will have better quality thanks to its PDAF (phase detection auto-focus) and OIS (optical image stabilization) features. The smartphone will retain the 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and the 5-megapixel macro sensors to support the main sensor. Additionally, the front camera will remain the same, with a 32-megapixel resolution.

Galaxy A54 and A34 processors

The main difference between the two smartphones is the processing unit that powered both models last year, the Exynos 1280. This year, the Samsung Galaxy A54 is set to focus on the upgraded version of their in-house produced mid-range SoC, the Exynos 1380. This new solution is manufactured using a 5 nm production process, making it more efficient and powerful than its predecessor. The Exynos 1380 features an octa-core CPU with 4 cores running at 2.4 GHz for power and 4 cores running at 2 GHz for efficiency, and a Mali G68 GPU from ARM. The CPU and GPU will increase the device’s performance by around 30% in multi-core tasks compared to the previous generation.

In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy A34 is running the MediaTek Dimension 1080 (MT6877V), a 6 nm SoC with an octa-core CPU and the same Mali G68 GPU as the Exynos 1380.

Also, both devices will have a comprehensive set of connectivity options. Including support for 5G networks, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. However, it appears that only the Galaxy A54 will have Wi-Fi 6 support.

Both smartphones will have similar memory and storage options. Including 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage, that users can expand using a microSD card. They will also both feature a 5000 mAh battery with 25 W fast cable charging and will run on Android 13-based One UI 5.0.
